As announced on KEXP in Seattle last night, the Surf Coasters are planning to come back to the US this September. Dates and clubs are being booked now, and I hope to have a complete tour list for you in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, they will only visit the West Coast, but a lot of people flew to see them on their last two tours, and I know there will be a lot of fans flying from Japan to see them here this time.
Why? The band is basically inactive playing only their annual New Year's show in Tokyo. Shigeo Naka has taken on lead guitar duties for Puffy, one of Japan's biggest bands and they keep him quite busy. The other members have taken day jobs, and are playing in other bands, so their time is very limited. But, they agreed to take their vacation time to come to America. Lucky us!
The first step I have taken is to set up an official MySpace page for them. (I have tried to contact the other "Surf Coasters" page and whoever runs it has not responded.) Check it out and please send us an "Invite".
More details soon!

To me, the Surf Coasters are one of the absolute most important bands in the development of my musical taste. While remaining a surf band they have ventured much farther in their sound than the majority of surf bands have dared go. One or two tracks were aural abortions, but the majority were amongst the most interesting and beautiful songs that I've ever come across.
And then there is the live show...

This is great news! They are also one of my favorite bands and quite a source of inspiration.
FYI, for those that have not noticed, The Surf Coasters have several of their shows posted on archive.org for free (and legal) downloading.

Great news. Looks like a great year for surf music coming up. I might have to schedule two trips out to the West coast this year!

This is such fantastic news. Madeira in August, Surf Coasters in September... Why isn't it summer yet?

I'm stoked,
saw them both times they came to Ca. before.
I just wish they brought more than 1 cd with them.
there are a few that I don't have.

Hey-- Any bands out there doing covers of Surf Coasters tunes? I want to put together a CDR to give to the band. Even if you just have demo recordings, I'd love to hear them. Currently I have versions of Surf Coasters songs by The Deoras, Madeira, The El Dorados, The Silver Hawks(Finland), the Mach IV & PDM - anybody else??? Even if you don't yet do a Surf Coasters song, learn one!
Mom Surfing, didn't you say you were doing a song?

I can play Last Train, Hurricane, and Intruder... all of them poorly. I'm not sure the band would be too flattered.
I've heard the El Dorados play Last Train. They've got a demo on their website.
