So, my wife likes to watch those PBS fundraiser specials when they profile music from the 50's, 60's etc. Last Sunday they were showcasing 60's groups but playing in the present day. (Probably the last decade, truth be told)
Anyhow, up comes Iron Butterfly, grey hair and all, playing a very abbreviated version of In-a-ga-da-da-vida. (Most likely edited down for TV) Mike Pinera was playing a Ventures model Mosrite guitar, as well as the bass player with a Ventures model bass.
We know from a previous thread that they played Mosrites and Showmans back in the late 60's when they first arrived on the music scene. Apparently they still play 'em today. (I wonder if they have their original Mosrites and why they didn't use them on stage.)
I couldn't make out their amps, although Pinera looked like he a Fender combo amp (possible twin) in his backline. The keyboardist had his trusty B3 and they all sounded great.

I concur they did sound great didn't they. I also noticed the Mosrites too. I knew it was a matter of time before someone brought this up.

Thier original guitarist Danny Weiss used a Mosrite, and suppossedly played surf before the psychedelic age. Erik Brann who replaced him also used a mosrite (he died a few years back), Mike Pinera ( of 'ride captain ride' fame ) replaced Erik Brann, but didn't originally use a Mosrite. In the sixties, the organist (Doug Ingle) used a Vox Continental exclusively. I belive they used Vox and Marshall amps, The Showman amps were from their Playboy after dark appearance, and appear to be the tv show house amps -- you can see both Deep Purple and Fleetwood Mac using those same Showman amps on the show during their appearance.

Frank, Mike Pinera came along in a "third version" of I.B. along with Doug Ingle (K.B. Player) playing the Hammond, not the VOX Continental Organ that he used earlier on the In-a-----------Vida Album. But the second guitarist to take the throne was Erik Braun, who was only 17 years old
when they had their Monster hit In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. They were actually using Mosrites and Vox Super Beatle Amps. I don't ever recall them using Fender Amps, unless someone can supply us with a pic of them using Fenders. Their new Guitarist is using a WILSON Guitar (Erik passed away some years back) which looks like an upside down Mosrite, which looks like an upside down Strat, which looks like......never mind, I'm getting a Mental Hernia! Somehow, I missed that previous thread, were there any pix of them using Fender Amps? There might be an old youtube of them playing their hit,....???
p.s. I also see that Psychonaut already beat me on the response....

Thanks for the clarifications. When I came to work this AM my computer said "Virtual Memory Low" - I guess that's not all.
As for proof of them using Fender Amps, check out the previous SG 101 thread below. Dennis, you'll like this because it's their concert from Pirate's World in Dania Beach (circa 1970?) Let me know if that's Erik on lead.
