I'm living in Korea and it's pretty easy to get across to Japan. I was wondering what Japanese bands were worth seeing ? I've been in contact with the Surf Coasters and, alas, they're not playing at the moment.
Are there any other bands worth seeing or festivals coming up ? I presumed 'cos it's summer there might be a few things on.

If I went to Japan, I would try to catch a show with The Royal Fingers if they are still together.

Probably the Sellcancers, Rat Holic and Goggle-A. Each seems to play out a lot.
On the fuzz side, Mad 3 and Switch Trout are really good, too.

The El Caminos, too (if they're still together).

Thanks for all the suggestions !
Is there a particular promoter, club or record label I should get hold of to get information too (besides contacting the bands directly) ?
I think Iâm most likely to go to Tokyoâ¦â¦â¦â¦I sâppose ?
P.S. I will, of course, write a review for Surfguitar101.

A couple of great bands (Mad 3 & Teengenerate) have cut live albums at a venue called Shelter, which seems to host a lot of punk and surf gigs. I'm not sure if it's in Tokyo or not, though.
I'd definitely get in touch with someone at Sazanami Label. It's a record label that specializes in modern GS bands, but they also put out some surf and eleki. It's run by members of Goggle-A. That'd be the best source I can think of.

Yeah, the Sazanami people were very friendly to me when I ordered the Sellcancers CD from them. They sent me a hand written note and a bunch of cool Japanese band adverts, stickers, and stuff.
Ferenc might have some ideas too, as PDM toured Japan.

Maybe put your question up on the message boards of some of the bands mentioned above. Even the the Surf Coasters arene't active, there message board still is.

use Babelfish if you need to translate.
Most of the rock clubs are small, subterranean places... as you can imagine, DJ culture is much more popular with the kids there, so those clubs are more heavily advertised.
