Hey, Billy I'm ready to order, but just wanted to make sure . .

is it $10 including shipping for members?

That's a steal of a deal. Are you sure you aren't losing money? Wink

That does include shipping within the US.
It is one heck of a deal, for my fellow brothers and sisters in this forum, but if you want to send more, I will not stop you. ((((grin)))

Been listening to the new CD. There are some really nice things happening. First off, it's a real tribute to Jeff, as his drumming is just great throughout. The ride is real prominent in some cases, but I'm not really qualified to talk about mixes and such. I like it just fine, though.

Some favorites:

"Six Gun Surfer" Excellent composition and has a real spaghetti western feel to it. Really seems to suit your syle very well.

"Dancing with Venus" has one of the tightest compositions on the album

"The Mighty Bah-Rooom" which is sort of a Pipeline meets Link Wray thing.

Billy strikes me as an atmospheric player. He likes to explore slow arpeggiated passages and weave impressionistic textures that often have a tendency to meander, but the sound is so gorgoeus that I don't mind too much. It would be nice to hear more compositionally, though. A slow major to minor chord change is beautiful, but to me can't sustain a song over several bars and seems all to often to substitute for more creativity. That being said, I actually welcome the sort of spare, slow arrangement that so many new band's material seem to be lacking.

I think that Billy is a developing artist in this genre. He wrote every song on the album. They seem to run the gamut from filler to magnum opus here. He's no virtuoso, but his playing often shines with a sort of conviction that some technical players never touch.

And hey, $10 shipped? (US) Come on forumites. You can't hardly afford not to check out The Mighty Surf Lords.

I'm Listening to it now.
got it from Billy yesterday at the Big Surf O rama show.
I hope there was more people than me that payed for it Billy.
Smile

Its really pretty good, compared to some of the Demos you gave me.
I agree that the songs are quite varied, but some are very imaginative.
I also really like Six Gun Surfer.

Thanks for the review guys, keep 'em coming.

Jeff, you should be really proud of yourself for supporting MSL. If more people were like you, the music industry would be a better thing.

I did a lot of trading, sold a few, and I gave away many promo copies to influential people in the crowd.

Billy,

Great CD! My picks are Paddling Out, The Bluest Reef and Surf Ace!
I really like them all, but these are my faves!
Thanks
Guy

Billy boy....got the CD's you sent....been listening on my way to work and back....it's a little ruff around the edges but the whole thing is really good. Of course being a record producer and studio guy, i'd sure like to re-mix those tracks!! Yes, i say that about almost all Cd's i get!! "Six Gun Surfer" "The Bluest Reef" and "Surf Ace" are my current faves....i like the tempo changes and your songwriting and guitar playing. Mahalo Nui Loa for sending those (i gave one to Conrad to play on his radio show) and i'm sending you some of our stuff too! I look forward to meeting you one day.
Aloha,

I really dig the BIG sound on this cd. Very stereo.
I heard someone say this sound has something to do with a big heart. I'd have to agree.
Heres to Jeff Campaigne! Thanks Jeff, Mike and Billy!!!
Good surf Cool

I've gotten through it twice so far. I like the big, deep sound and the open spaces which are rare in a lot of surf music. Some of it would be great film music, reminds me a little of what Neil Young did for DEADMAN...very atmospheric. I like how some of the CD strays from trad surf music tones and arrangements. It kind of has a Psychedelic edge to me, I like it.
Great job Billy. Go MSL!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!

It was my very first experience as a Studio Engineer, and I had taught myself everything that you are hearing...good and not so good.
But overall, I am very pleased with the album, and with the recordings I got out of Jeff.

I used a MAC G-5 with Garage Band, then had the whole thing re-mastered by a friend here in Reno.

As of today, you can order the CD directly from me, or from www.cdbaby.com/cd/mightysurflords

It will be up on itunes very soon.

I am interested in trades, and still offer a special deal of $10. to all fellow SG'ers

I finally had a chance to listen to the new MSL CD on my plane trip to and from Calgary (5.5 hrs both ways). The first thing that stuck me is the really nice reverbed guitar tone. It is not shrill, but has lots of room. Is this just a tank, or was outboard added? The songs are nicely arranged, and played, and nothing is lacking in the trio format. My Faves are "Six Gun Surfer", and "Murph the Surf".

Definitely Recommended.

Hey Rev, It's actually a Yamaha processor that I get that beautiful reverb sound out of. I, of course, have my amp reverb to 10 as well.
But no outboard, yet...

I might want to take this opportunity to add that The Twang Shebang #44, from Unsteady Freddie has been released www.myrealbroadcast.com
U/F was kind enough to sit with me through a ten minute interview...WOW!!!
Check out this show as there are some fine bands from this room even.
Dig It!!!
