...and Bruce Dickinson is my god.
Check out this Aussie story on the recently-commenced Maiden world tour and their special airplane, piloted by the remarkable Dickinson. Make sure you check out the video, too:

They are playing here at the Forum soon,
But Im not really into their newer stuff.
And 50 plus bucks for ticket vs 5 to 10 for a surf show.
Just doesn't make sense to me nowadays.
but it is cool that they are back in a big way.

They'll be back. In May and June they'll be doing a full-length North American tour. This LA show is just a pitstop between Japan and central/south America.
But Im not really into their newer stuff.
That's too bad, you're missing out. A Matter of Life and Death, their most recent album, is amazing.
But this tour has nothing past '90 - it's tied into the Live After Death (their concert movie from '86) release on DVD (subtitled The Early Years, Vol. 2). The tour focuses on the Powerslave, Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son albums.

Suit yourself, but that's really not bad for a show like Maiden's. And it sounds like the material they're playing is right up your alley.
but it is cool that they are back in a big way.
Hell yeah!

===>Sorry Ivan--gotta disagree with you on that one. I don't think
they've put out a solid album since Seventh Son. Granted, Fear of the
Dark had some decent stuff on it, but a lot of filler. Brave New World
is ok, but Dance of Death and A Matter of Life and Death are mediocre
at best, imho.
To be honest, I think what REALLY makes them weak albums is the
production values. Martin Birch (who did all their early stuff) retired
a number of years ago. The newer Maiden stuff is (I can't believe I'm
actually going to say this, especially on a SURF FORUM and talking about
HEAVY METAL!) too loud (yes, I said it!). And I really don't get into
the trio of guitars--I say keep Adrian Smith and Dave Murray, but give
the other guy (I can't think of his name! Ack!) the sack.
Also, the songs. . . well, they're just not memorable--not nifty riffs, if
you know what I mean.
Oh well, I'll still go see them again, assuming they come back to
Pittsburgh. I've caught the two previous tours that came this way, and
they STILL put on a kick-ass show.
(Incidentally, Ronnie James Dio opened for them last time I saw them,
and he more or less upstaged them, he was THAT good!)

Wow, my first thought is "don't let Bruce party after the show, he's gotta fly EVERYONE and THE GEAR to the next one."

And you absolutely MUST voice that disagreement, right?

I think the great majority of the Maiden fans disagree with you about AMOLAD. I do. I agree with your take on FOTD, BNW and DOD, though.
To be honest, I think what REALLY makes them weak albums is the
production values. Martin Birch (who did all their early stuff) retired
a number of years ago. The newer Maiden stuff is (I can't believe I'm

Vincent, I know all about Martin Birch - I'd take you on head-to-head about Maiden trivia any time, any place! I much prefer Birch to the Caveman, but c'mon, who gives a shit about the production - either something's good or not! Production would have to be pretty bad to ruin a good album!
And I really don't get into
the trio of guitars--I say keep Adrian Smith and Dave Murray, but give
the other guy (I can't think of his name! Ack!) the sack.
Not a fan of Janick's either...
Also, the songs. . . well, they're just not memorable--not nifty riffs, if you know what I mean.
I disagree. Is it as good as their '80s stuff? No, but at its best it's pretty close.
Oh well, I'll still go see them again, assuming they come back to
Pittsburgh. I've caught the two previous tours that came this way, and
they STILL put on a kick-ass show.
Oh yeah. I'll be there again - also seen them twice over the last five years.
(Incidentally, Ronnie James Dio opened for them last time I saw them, and he more or less upstaged them, he was THAT good!)
I'm a big fan of Dio, and I saw Dio open for them (in '03, right?), but I would vehemently disagree.

IRON !@$#!# MAIDEN !!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!
I was a huge little Maiden fan growing up. Basically learned how to play by jamming along to Live After Death with my buddies! Even played in a Maiden tribute band for a while. How that lead me to surf is anyones guess

There have been a few bands that have done surf versions of Iron Maiden songs, not to far of a leap in my mind.

I only have one Iron Maiden (album) CD, but I'll recommend it. Live After Death. The CD I have is a multimedia CD, with videos of "Aces High," "2 Minutes To Midnight" and (I think) "Powerslave." I should really get some more Iron Maiden stuff. I keep my eclectic collection in alphabetical order, by artist/band, so as one browses through the I's, they'll see Iron Butterfly and Iron Maiden sitting next to each other.

Man, what a blast it would be to do a little side project and do some of those cool tunes from the 80's. Maiden, Priest, Dio.
You would have to find a kick ass singer for that kind of range.
I would dig doin' tunes like "Children of the Damned, Number of the Beast, Trooper, Don't talk to strangers, Electric Eye to name a few.
It would be a total blast to jam thru a Marshall, and a flyin' V again.
Maybe someday.

YES!
Iron Maiden rules. My favorite album is Number of the Beast. SO many classic tracks. I haven't checked out their new stuff yet, so I'll have to give it a listen..

Heh heh, as a true Maiden fan, you'd expect me to say, "Easy one!" But
in all honesty, that's a real tough one. But, since I'm given only two
choices, I'd say:
- Number of the Beast (It has "Run to the Hills," THE greatest metal song
of all time!)
- Powerslave
But in all honesty, ANY of their first seven albums are worth getting:
- Iron Maiden (self-titled)
- Killers
- Number of the Beast
- Piece of Mind
- Powerslave
- Somewhere in Time
- Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
The first two feature Paul Di'Anno on vocals. The next five feature Bruce
"Air Raid Siren" Dickinson.

Satan's favorite surf band, aka, Gein & the Graverobbers did a surf version
of "Transylvania" on their album, Songs in the Key of Evil. Not a huge
fan of Gein & co., but their version of "Travsylvania" is, in some ways,
better than Maiden's original, imho.

Killers and ... screw it, just buy two copies of Killers.
(Seriously, Killers and Powerslave)

"A Matter of Life and Death" pretty much renewed my interest in Maiden. I've always liked the older stuff: "Piece of Mind" and "Killers" being my favorites...but "A Matter of Life and Death" is anything BUT mediocre in my opinion...in fact, I'm going to put it on right now. Thanks for the suggestion...Oh yeah, and saw the tour with Ronnie James and Motorhead...Maiden blew them away, although I could have used a sword fight versus Eddie...oh well BTW FOR THE GREATER GOOD OF GOD is THE best (IMHO)
Where's Ru on this one? I think he's at Home Depot and Bed Bath and Beyond....if there's time.
