I just spent some time watching videos in the video section and I started to wonder.
How many bands here play to put on a show, or just play to provide dance music?
I seem to remember that when I was a teenager the bands were playing to provide dance music.
Well, at least 'I' saw it that way, until the british invasion came along.
What is your thoughts?

I think it all depends on the band, the crowd, where its at, and if there is room to dance also.
many people are shy, or embarrassed to dance,
I'm guilty of that.
but I also have 2 left feet, and nobody wants to see me stomping around looking like the jolly Green giant trying to smash people.

I like to do both. In the 12 years+ of USK gigs, there has always been dancing. That's one way we measure success!

What about doing it for the love of the music? The art?
To me that's what it's really all about. If you also put on
a show and / or get people on the dance floor, it's a
bonus, but (to me) not absolutely necessary.

Well not at first true, but as the venues grew larger the music became an instrument to put on a show. Very few people danced at the hugh _shows _brought on by the british invasion.

Both I believe Joel, we are there to put on a show and create an atmosphere where people feel like they want to and can get up and dance.
We judge all our 'shows' by how many, how long and what type of songs got people up and dancing.
In my experience, people love to dance and consequently judge a good night out by how much fun they had.

As just a fan, I'd say I prefer a show. Dance-fests have their moments, but I prefer to go to a surf concert for the show.
Besides, they weren't called "Eddie and the Dancers"... blech.

dancing breaks out all the time at my SURF-ROCK SHINDIGs
but that wasn't the case this past Saturday night b/c the entirety of the available floor space was used, with people sitting or standing right up, literally, to the foot of the stage; this had to have been the most crowded SHINDIG I have ever presented...incredible energy for almost 5 hours, non-stop!!

We have a few friends / wife's that like to dance, when we play. If they are there, dancing breaks out, if their not there to un-intimidate the croud, we put on a show to staring people. But.....everytime we play "sleepwalk"!
