Just listening to a vocal version of Pipeline (huh?) by Johnny Legend and His Band on Hillsdale (Johnny Bartlett's label). Anyone familiar with this? It's pretty funny and actually not all that bad (or great either).

No, actual words. Something like this:
"Come on Baby (unintelligiable), Come on Honey something something something and Blah blah blah Pipeliiiiiinnne!" And some other stuff, from what I can figure out, kind of a threatening type love song?
It's now my new favorite surf vocal. ![Wink Wink](/media/smiley/images/icon_wink.gif)

I think you could call it both a novelty and good - and a bit bizarre. Depends on what you like and how easily offended you are.
Yes. I think it's funny (and interesting) that people go ahead and write lyrics to instrumentals. Just can't leave them alone? Too lazy to write their own melodies. Or they were inspired by the music?

I don't consider myself very easily offended, but I find even the idea of that offensive.

"Pipeline" popped up once during Stump the Band or whatever on Letterman. I can't remember what words Paul Shaffer came up with for it, but it was pretty underwhelming.

— That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

It probably cracked off and sank under its own weight, Outsides.
I suppose if surf bands can improve vocal numbers by deleting the vocals the notion of the reverse - ruining surf songs by adding vocals? - is not far away.
It came to me that Penetration still needs lyrics. Maybe something about getting a piercing, so as not to fall into the obvious trap. I have a draft of a first verse.
When in doubt just get yourself another piercing ... oh!
If in doubt just get yourself another piercing ... oh!
Because penetration doesn't have to have a point!
I'm stuck for the bridge.

I'm pretty sure the opening lines are:
Bumbitty-bumbitty-bumbitty-bumbitty-bumbitty-bumbitty
Doo-doot doo-dat doo-doot doo-dat doo-doot doo-dat
... but maybe that's only if you use the neck pickup.

Johnny Legend lived in our home for a couple of weeks during some gigs here in Sweden in 94. he and my dad sat up all night watching The Ventures videos. he told us he was going to do a version of Pipeline with vocals. i havent heard that version though.
