Permalink Fresh blood in ATLANTA!!

New Topic
Goto Page: 1 2 Next

I've been lurking around on the site for months, and have REALLY enjoyed it!! I finally said to myself, "what are you waiting for!?", so I joined up, and can now participate. I've been a fan of surf music for many years now, and actually have finally started a band after talking about it for far too long. We are (at least tentatively) called The Mad Scientists. So get ready all of you other Atlanta surf bands and fans, we are all going to get something going and have some fun! We need more surf music in town!!

Heh, funny, there was another guy that posted yesterday from Monroe.

We're The Surge, and we're in Atlanta. Welcome aboard.

thanks a bunch!

I saw you guys at the surf fest in June, and boy was I impressed! Any plans of playing out and about anytime soon?

Welcome! Guitar

Welcome, Mad Scientist!

Atlanta is home to The Surge, Stratogeezer, The Broken Spokes, The Penetrators, El Capitan plus a really good local fan base.

Various non-surf bands that actually made money

Welcome Madscientist, glad to have you out of lurkdom. No question is too dumb, though be sure to check out the archives for more than you ever thought you needed to know about playing surf music.

Thanks Danny! I look forward to mixing it up with everybody here. Seems like a great group!

I actually lived in San Francisco for around 5 years, and worked at The Beach Chalet for a little while, and at least back then, they had The Aqua Velvets and the Shi-Tones (a cover version of The Mermen) play there every week. You ever hear of rumblings from over there? It's a great place to go chech that stuff out. They make GREAT beer, too!!

And to Woody... I was fortunate enough to attent he Surf Fest last year, and heard all of the great bands!! It was a good time. I only wish there were more local shows. Hopefully we can all remedy that soon!

Thanks for the welcome, guys!

WELCOME!!! (I've got to get my butt up to Atlanta one of these days)

CUTBACK

Welcome MadScientist!

I was at Clarkston Surf Fest too! Really great show! I am from Ohio, but have been known on occasion to travel to Atlanta to participate in the Surf Rock Happenings at least a couple of times a year. Hope to meet you in person sometime.
Thanks

Welcome MadScientist
Atlanta huh?
If surf music keeps growing in the south the way it is, the south will be as surfy as California, and surf city may have to move. Shocked

Again, Welcome here y'all!
Joel

There's also a band in Athens called The Curl.

I'm not sure how active they are anymore, but somebody keeps updating the myspace page. They stray into experimental territory every once in a while, but I've always enjoyed their shows.

Yep, I know it, been there lots. Shitones don't play much there anymore. Let us know if you come back to visit.

Welcome aboard Mr Madscientist.

How's about we solve this issue right now......we throw an open surf night jam here in Atlanta. I'll crank down on the dudes at Club 29 and shake Wayne's tree over in Clarkston. Hey Jet.....fire up the dude at the Star Bar........what we need gentlemen and ladies.......is an "ice breaker!"

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Richard: I ran across The Curl on MySpace as well. I'd LOVE to see them play. Experimental doesn't bother me at all... I really dig The Mermen, and that's about experimental as it gets!

Danny: Sorry to hear about the Shi-Tones not playing there anymore. This was a couple of years ago, so things may have changed a lot at the ol Beach/Park Chalet. I'll bet their beer is still great. I miss it. I'll definitely let you know when I make a visit.

Eddie: Sounds GREAT!! I figure a good surf show a month sprinkled around would be fantastic!! Just gotta get that blood moving!

Thanks to everybody for the warm welcome!!

If you're interested in seeing The Curl play, periodically check www.flagpole.com and watch the shows page for them. It was/is a side project of a guy that does a bunch of other stuff (he's one of those Laptop/Atari 1500 on stage guys) so they only emerge every once in a while.

The one show we're definitely playing in the near future is a garage/rock festival in Macon some friends of mine organized on February 23rd. The band is also gonna be in that big show Matt Crunk is engineering in Alabama which I think someone linked in this thread. I won't be with them because I had to go and get married...

Found the thread, it's on April 19th:
