a friend sent this picture, i havent seen this one before. i think the guy who took the photo had some kind of effects on the camera, it almost looks like i have the yellow fever, parts of my skin is yellow and my teeth to..but the guitar looks pretty cool anyways.. by the way, i usually dont use to make faces when im playing..this night i was meeting this girl i had been talking to for some time on internet and i was so nervous so i drank alot of beer before the show because she was coming there, so right before we started playing i drank alot of coffe so i would sober up. that didnt help..so here i am being drunk on stage and rocking away doing these silly heavy metalfaces....i dont remember if i played a lot of mistakes...but at least i got that girl The reality is that we do not wash our own laundry - it just gets dirtier. www.myspace.com/tumbleweedofsurf |

You gotta love a fez. I just can't pull off the look, but I think it's mighty cool. |

Great thread! Nice to see all those great guitars and smiley faces - you've made my day! I feel like grabbing the board and going for a surf - if only I had a board...or could surf... Here's me with my _uh - hem, fake _Jaguar back in the 80's - I learnt how to play surf guitar on it though. I used a screwdriver for a tremelo bar...it was the start -however-of something deep and beautiful Tim O |

I've got a fez and a pith helmet. But, alas, I can't seem to find the occasion to wear them! |

TommyD I've never seen a real Fez in an Australian shop -yet. Er, what -is- a pith helmet? Tim O |

A pith helmet is what the you see in those old safari movies. The British army once used them with their tropical uniforms. They are called 'pith' helmets because they are made from the pith of ceretain trees. You can find them on ebay... that's where I got mine! |

TommyD I'm glad I asked!! Yep, I sure recognise those helmets from a hundred black and white midday movies. Seeing that this thread is about "that's what you look like", maybe it might be appropriate for a photo in your Pith Helmet? Hmmm? What do you think? Tim O |

Well, Tommy D - I-am-impressed! Would I be mistaken in guessing that you also have a 1970's 'safari suit' in the back of your wardrobe? I'd definitely wear that on stage (and possibly down to the shops) Thanks for the photo! Tim O's recent mugshot -without guitar and no Fez in sight Tim O |

A fez should be very simple to fabricate. inspired by this 15th century portrait of Federico da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino.: It's mostly two layers of craft store felt ( the really cheap kind, not proper hat-making felt) sandwiched together by ordinary white glue (eg. Elmer's Glue-all, LePage's Bondfast, whatever), plus a length of grosgrain ribbon around the bottom on the inside. Didn't even need any interfacing. See also http://www.northernelectric.ca/medieval/hats/dmp/dmproject.htm and http://www.costumes.org/advice/costcraftsmanual/tmpjk10.htm A simpler method might be to sew a single-layer circle of felt onto one end of a truncated felt cone, line the side and top with iron-on interfacing for structure, sew in a grosgrain ribbon around the bottom of the crown, and finally flip it inside out. —I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing. |
