Well it's just gone 2am over here and I'm finally unpacked re stacked and ready for the sack after another Christmas party gig.
I had to post this as what we played tonight went over far better than anytime before. What was it?
Surf music! instrumentals, we played 4 songs within a gig that had 3 sets and went for close on 3 hours, and the songs they all wanted to talk about afterwards was the 'surf' instrumentals.
I'd say the feeling of the band was pretty chuffed.
I don't know many of these surf songs yet but we're getting there, and seeing as how they went over so well, the lads want more...
Which songs?
Apache
Pipeline
Wipeout
Walk Don't Run
Hell Yeah! it was fun.

casey and i played at a little beach front bar in mexico a couple of weeks ago to a very appreciative crowd. we didn't know what to expect from them and they loved us. we played 'apache' and one brit was stoked that we knew a shadows tune and even requested we play it again as our final song. another guy was happy to hear 'surf rider' as it took him back to another time. we played 'pipeline' as part of a medley, someone else who had heard it before inquired to it's title. i know to some people these tunes are over-played and worn out but they do catch the attention of those who aren't into the genre but have heard them before.
i know 'wipeout' is old to some but i haven't found a drummer yet who isn't more than happy to play it. once again, it catches the attention of those who've heard it 'somewhere' and can't place it.
just my $.01

I wonder how many folks, other than those of us here, know that Jay Leno uses "Surf Rider" for his 'Stuff We Found On eBay' bit?

Bravo Spud and Carol.
Well, I don't know that it was comparable to anything from most of the bands here, but it's a start and it was fun, thanks anyhow though Brian.
Gotta crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run.
I wouldn't be adverse to a couple of suggestions, maybe in the easier class along the lines of the ones I've already described.

'out of limit's' is a fun one to play and quite easy.

Thanks mate, it was the best part I thought, of the show.
Thanks Carol, I'll look out for that one.
