Permalink My first ever recorded guitar tracks!

But I went back and deleted them, nearly as soon as I'd recorded them, until I went back to the manual to discover why I wasn't hearing the playback after I'd "recorded" a test track. Over Christmas break from work (21st - Jan. 2nd for my shift), I'll start working toward finally capturing the songs I've noodled with for the longest amount of time. Once I consult the manual again, concerning overdubbing, I'll even work on capturing new songs as they happen, then go back and try to get other parts to go with it.

Of course it'll take some practice, and reading the manual a few times, but I've finally achieved a lifelong dream of not only being a musician, but being a recording musician...even if I'm an at home hobbyist. Once I get my other PC setup with the needed hardware and software, I'll be able to play with things a bit more, to include burning discs and file type conversions. Until then, I'll be recording and manipulating tracks with my Fostex MR-8mkII, 8-track digital multi-tracker. It's almost intuitive to use, but as I mentioned above, there were a few things that only reading the manual helped me with.

I don't know how long it'll take me, but at some point in 2008 I'll be able to post my first album here at Surf Guitar 101. I'm not sure yet how many songs will be on it (still need to name several of them), but mostly everything will be original creations, save for two covers...guitar instrumental arrangements of "A Swingin' Safari" (Bert Kaempfert) and "Jungle Fever" (The Tornados). If anything, I could always post those two, as soon as they're recorded and mixed down.

Cool Matt, looking forward to hearing them. Read that manual thoroughly, you'll save yourself trouble later.

Surfabilly,

Are you using software to create your drums?

SurfCat

I have zilch, in the way of drums, for now. Not sure when, or how I'll solve that, but I'll get around to it. Based on my first "recording session," however, I'll need to practice a tad more before I put down more tracks. That, and read more in the manual about how to do things like bounce tracks, and move stuff around. If I don't get it in one take, I'll "splice" together good parts of bad takes...whatever it takes.

Still, nothing I record will be complete, until I figure out how to get some drumming recorded. However my budget during 2008 goes will dictate the means by which I get drum tracks into my recording. Actually, available money and opportunity coincides will.

Maybe someone on the forum here has an old drum machine gathering dust that would donate or sell it cheap to you?

Anyone?
