Hi All,

I am trying to save space and post the Roland GR-20 tests under the same thread.
This is an expedited and sometimes clumsy attempt (the sound is very good though) at emulating a big orchestra sound and Rock Organ:
Jimmy Smith "Moanin' ".
Got somehow mixed between guitar style and Organ style during the Organ solo, so please disregard the mistakes.
I hope you' ll find it interesting if only for the sound and the capabilities
of the GR-20.

(Video section) Look for <u>"MOANIN'"</u>

Hi All,

Sorry, it's not surf, but I wanted you to hear the accordion patch on the Roland GR-20. It's just amazing.

(Video section) Look for "MON COEUR D' ATTACHE"

Abel

Hi all,

I hope you are all doing alright.
I just acquired a Roland GR-20 Guitar Synth and I did a very first short test on the original "Take Five" using the Saxophone patch.
Disregard the mistakes as I am very new to this unit which requires a special guitar technique, some fingering constraints and playing like ...... the instrumentist.
I can tell you that it is so much fun, I can't get over it.
The Organ patch make you really sound like Jimmy Smith.
I will probably do "Moanin'" next.
It really sounds unreal.
With some more practice, I think one can sound like any instrument, except maybe .... the Marvin "sound".

Blessings and Merry Christmas to you all,
Abdel

Thanks Abdel! I've been learning that song for the past few weeks, your video will help me with my timing.

That's just wrong on so many levels. . . and yet it's so right!

Man, good stuff! That sax sound is better than what I get out of my
ASR-10 sampler.

I want a guitar synth so bad!

Btw, is there an latency (delay)? I've heard that there is some mild
lag time, although that may have been with the first generation or
two of guitar synths (circa late 1970s--Larry Fast/Synergy used them
back then).

Again, great stuff! Thanks for sharing!

Vincent

Is this something you can share with the rest of us, Amazing Larry?!?

Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Vincent, There is no latency at all. I might have installed it right.
but it's a brise to install it anyway.
You install the pup with double-sided tape (included).

Regards,
Abdel

wow pretty niffty,
sounds great.

I felt like I was sitting in a little cafe at the beach in Italy drinking espresso.

Man that is pretty impressive.
What amp are you running the Roland GR-20 through?

Joel

Glad you liked it.

Jeff any upcoming surf show?.
Joel I run it through a P.A. system. Although a guitar amp will do the
job, realize that you have a pretty powerful sound spectrum
that could could easily blow your speakers. Also, on a guitar
amp, you are not getting the full range of frequencies you get
on a P.A. or a keyboard amp.

Abel

Abdel youre the man! Very Happy
