Permalink Vintage surfing books?

New Topic

I found this in a used bookstore. (I got this picture off the internet. Mine is missing the jacket.) It's a first editon 1965 and is full of great period surfing pictures and boards.

They're fun to keep a lookout for when you are in used bookstores, second hand shops, etc.

Does anyone here collect old surfing books or magazines, etc. ?

I have some 70's Surfer and Surfing magazines but my prize is volume one number one of Surfing Illustrated winter of 1962. Walt Phillips was publisher and Leroy Grannis was general manager. In it is this poem: Shooting the curl,
I walked to the nose,
Did a three-sixty
And hung ten toes.
I was feeling good,
I was feeling OK,
For the next wave I caught
Was the wave of the day!

Rick

I love that poem for some reason. I think I'll resite it at the start of our set next time we play, maybe follow it with a raukus version of Pipeline or somthing. Rick
