Hello folks!
Just wanted to get some quick opinions here: What do you prefer for a bridge pickup to get a nice low end AND a good amount of bite & twang that doesn't hurt your ears? I'm not talking specific brands of pickups, since every brand has it's fans and detractors...just a general overview.

Personally, for the characteristics you mentioned, I love DeArmond 2K's (aka Dynasonics). Unfortunately, unless we're talking about a DIY custom job, the only stock Fender models (not counting Gretsches) that have 'em are the Strato/Telesonics - and even then, then you'd have to mod it to put a trem on.

Ah, excellent choice! I have a set of Dynasonics in my Gretsch that sound excellent...never thought about slapping a set in a Strat though. That might be something to consider.
My biggest issue as of late is just not getting a good low end from Strat singles (or enough for my tastes I should say) so I'm thinking of experimenting a bit with bridge pickups.

Hmm - for an existing Strat, they prolly won't work, they're too tall, unless you route the cavity deeper, I imagine. My next choice would be P-90's (again, routing issues).

I work in a custom guitar shop, so my modding options are pretty limitless! I'm actually about to build myself a custom guitar to suit my particular needs, but I'm still not 100% pickup-wise. Maybe 3 P-90s with a 5 way switch? Hmmmm.....

Yeah, that site's infectious - the twin lipsticks are a cool idea, though. Even cooler with a coil-tap.
Frankenstrats kick ass.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The Dano has the twin lipstick with 2 vol and 2 tones, but the tone pots are push/pull: one acts as a coil tap, and the other as an in/out phase. The tone possabilities are damn near endless. But, Danos don't particularly hold up well live.

That is, if you like nasaly tones, lots of high mid in those pick-ups. They are also extremely low output. I think they're good for recording, or if you're playing in a less "dense" setting (less guitars or slower music)
However, I did hear other lipstick pickups that sounded much better, Ferenc uses them (maybe he can tell you the name).

GuitarFetish/GFS makes Lipsticks that are drop in replacements (Dano Lipsticks are slightly larger than Strat pickups) for Strat, Humbucker and now TELE pickups...

I've got a Humbucker one in my 1980's Hondo replica of a Danelectro Longhorn (It came with a DeMarzio HB in it originally ewwwww.) It finally sounds like it should (Like Epic era Link Wray.)

I have Kent Armstrong lipsticks in my Reverend and Strat copy. They came out with a (slightly IMO) higher output model which I put in my SGV. For what its worth, I like lower output PUs because you can turn your amp up louder.

I have the Armstrong single-coil lipstick tube pickups on the Retrotone Surfmaster...
The neck pickup has a slightly hotter output than the bridge...
I would agree with Ran's assessment, thought...a nasaly-twang mixed with a high-mid shimmer...I am leaning towards the round-wound strings with the lipsticks...the flat wound sound comes across a little too "dead" in combination with the lipstick dynamics...

I bought one of their Lipstick humbuckers, and Tele bridge Lipstick for my Squier Standard Fat Telecaster. The only reason I haven't yet swapped 'em in is 'cause I'm holding out for a Strat-style 5 way switch, so I can coil tap the humbucker, as well as with both pickups in parallel (a popular Tele mod with a 4 way switch). I'm probably holding my breath, to be waiting for the Fender 5 way switch, so does anybody have suggestions, other than Fender, for a 5 way switch? I'll get back with y'all on how my upgraded Fat Tele sounds, once the mods have been done.

I am very interested in how the Tele Bridge Lipstick sounds.
I installed 5 way Fender "Super Switches" in my Tele and my Burns Steer. The added switching options are great. I picked up the switches on ebay for about $15 each, well worth the money.
I used this wiring diagram...

(The Steer comes with a separate switch for coil splitting the humbucker.)
