I was wondering if anyone plays Guitar Hero 2 or 3 on the xbox 360?
I have 2, but I just picked up 3 and it's pretty fun too. I know, I know, not a lot of surf music in those games, but strangely, I find that they actually do help me with my tempo.
Anyhoo, if anyone is playing guitar hero 3 online, you may be able to find me in there sometimes as xbted; they have interactive jamming now or something.

I also play both guitar hero 2 and 3 for fun now and then on 360.

I haven't tried it yet...but I did watch some kids play for awhile, and it looks kind of fun...but I'm wondering if my real-life guitar playing skills will get in the way of my Guitar Hero controller manipulation...

The important thing is to never confuse guitar hero as a teaching aid for actual guitar, or vice versa. The only thing the two have in common is the rhythmm and that's it.
That being said, both are very fun in different ways. I love playing guitar and guitar hero. If you have a video game system and are looking for a fun game to play on it, try guitar hero. If you want a skill that you use more practically for many years to come, then go with actual guitar.

I find thats true - you hear a semitone rise and you go to press the next betton up the 'neck' - I found that playing guitar made it more difficult than for non-players as you have to fight your instinct. Good fun tho - and yes I guess the timing thing is easier for players...

Yeah, it's pretty true. I find that blowing people away on video games really doesn't do much for my shooting skills. But, it really does make my thumbs particularly strong and buffed out.
Nah, guitar hero is just fun, and it's totally a rhythm thing. It's not any more real then playing MLB on the Xbox where the rules and basics are the same as real baseball, but it's not going to prepare anyone to hit against a major league pitcher in real life.
I did catch some of the South Park stuff, pretty funny, especially how the got the noises the controller makes down pretty good.

I like the message they get after getting 1,000,000 points...
Also, Heroin Hero. It's a game where you shoot simulated heroin, and chase a pink dragon around a forest... but you never catch the dragon. You just keep chasing it...

I played for the first time the other day on my friend's Wii. It was fun, but not life-changing. I'd play it again.
It'd be fun to see a song that had tremolo picking the whole way through.

My son (he's 14) wants one. He has a PS2 game system. It is worth the $$ and what do I need to buy to hook him up right?
I am clueless when it comes to video games and would appreciate some guidance.
Thank you!

Just make sure you buy the bundle with both the game and the guitar controller. Without the guitar controller, Guitar Hero is unplayable.
I think it's worth the money for sure - I've played it far more than I'd care to admit.

Thank you for the advice. Just picked up guitar hero III w/ a wireless guitar for the boy.
Think I finally found a video game we can play together.

It may not be through the whole song, but it's quite a bit.

I think something similar is already out for the PC...
