All Bruce Brown Films (except maybe On Every Sunday, which I saw recently) were re-released on DVD.
ES starts at ⬠9,90 on Amazon.
Exchanging filesharing info pisses me off. I have left a forum because of that. The request coming from a musician is hopeless!

The Tri-surf version of the Endless Summer soundtrack was not the original.
it was a re-recording with the Goegis(sp?) brothers and Alan of the Merman on Bass, and some other musicians.
the original version of the soundtrack plus the later 60's ski LP they did can be got on a 2fer cd by Raven records outta Australia.
happy hunting.

Good question. I donât know. Maybe it has to do with my life. I am in the minority of people making a living on the concept of selling music, and that makes me have an odd opinion. I saw manical cd buyers destroy the vinyl market in the late 80s and early 90s. The neurotic filesharers of today are much the same kind of guys - see what a cool guy I am having all of these files! While they claim to advertise the music - music sales keep diving. How is that?

So true so true now I'm hearing storys of the cd on it's way out due to digital "MP3's" I'm the kind of buyer that likes to own the actual real cd/lp and have it in my hands, mp3 players can go bad malfunction , PC's can crash and there goes all that digital music, I'm with ya!

I agree, buy dont download,
unless its a buy to download site.
and unless its a old outta print lp or cd, then I say copy away.
not that its legal, but your not taking money out of the artists pocket then.

The original Version of the Endless Summer record is available as a 2 fer on Amazon. Sometimes Borders Books has it. It is called Wild as the Sea. You have to get the horrible sky movie soundtrack with it but you get a great copy of the Endless Summer
BTW if you notice in the other Bruce Brown film Surfin Shorts theres a whole Skateboard segment with music by the Sandals. It is not on the Wild As the Sea CD. Also there is some other music in ES where they are surfing in S Africa that has to be them Sounds like the Vulcanes. Great Bass 6 song. So really wild as the sea isn't their complete recordings but you get the ES Soundtrack. The Tri Surf Re Recording - pass

I have that Bruce Brown compilation (picked it up at the Huntington Beach International Surf Museum in Oct '06) and the Team Hobie Skateboard Team segment is my fave! The music throughout all the films is really great! Get it if you can find it!

I like the real thing too, but as far as loosing mp3's due to hardware failure go, that's a given, all hardware will eventually fail. That's why you have to make one or two backup copies. Burn them on CD or DVD, copy them to an external HD. It will eventually fail too, but as long as you have one good copy, you can back it up again. You have to do that with you photos too.

Love the tune, but the movie?

What a snore fest! I call it Endless Movie. I think you really have to be into surfing to sit through it. That said, I saw it the first time around in the theater, and I've probably watched portions of it 3 times on TV

Many non-surfers thought different. And Bruce brown could generously scale down his release schedule. On Any Sunday & Endless Summer II where done after ES1, when before it he did one film each year.

To the sentimentalist in me, Endless Summer is THE definitive sound of California in late August and early September...that slow, sublime feeling that summer is ebbing and your watching the die-hard surfers at the beach at sunset. I usually play the song religiously on the Labor Day weekend and I watch the movie(s) I/II around this time of year in mid-winter. Who wouldn't want to live out a world-trodding trek like that?
I am not a surfer, yet I know that there are few in the Surfing culture who are not aware of Endless Summer, if not even more Bruce Brown films.
I can listen to and play the song for hours on end. Like Coke, this is a song you never get tired of. It is an archetypal song for Surf ballads.
The Shi-Tones (with Jim Thomas of The Mermen) are known to play the entire Endless Summer Soundtrack as it is well known as one of Jim's key musical influences.
