I've noticed that the marketing for X-mas has started quite early this year, and I was wondering if this bugs anyone around here...
Honestly, I think it's kinda stupid to start the buying season this early, it's only the first week of November!

actually I have heard some people saying that they saw some x-mas stuff as early as Oct 1st.
yes it is odd, but I don't get bent about it, just kinda scratch my head.

YES! lately the trend seems to be "do it early" the only season or if you want to call it a holiday is Halloween, now with Halloween I don't mind seeing ads etc.. early on it just get's me pumped.
Also what's up with the ads in July "X-mass in July sale!!" WTF! now that's way to early!!!

As some of you know, I'm the carpenter for the massive Macy's (over a million sq ft) in downtown SF. For the last 4 years we've been opening our christmas shop (holiday lane - gag me) in the first week of September. Usually the christmas music doesn't play in the rest of the store until Thanksgiving, but this year is started this week. You should see the reactions to the customers in the elevators having to listen to Paul McCartney's f*cking travesty of a christmas song - Simply having a wonderful christmas time, talk about torture. It's like he got a new toy synthesizer in 1975 or whatever, made a little ditty, and the rest of us are stuck listening to that pablum forever - somebody just shoot me now. I think the idea is that the music will remind customers that christmas is coming, the message being 'why not do your shopping early'. Shoppers Unite! Tell these retailers enough's enough already.

Thanks anyway Kyle, but I'll pass on the video
You know what other christmas song sends me into convulsions? Eartha Kitt's Santa Baby. I dig Eartha Kitt, (Catwoman - Reowwwr) but that song drives me insane. That insipid melody and lyric bores a hole into my skull and lodges into my brain like 2 ton epoxy. I'm tempted to grap a large screwdriver and stick it in my ear in an attempt to free me from it's evil grasp.

There's a special ring in Hell reserved for "Santa Baby."

Danny I totally dig your graphic descriptions of these clee-shay x-mass songs and what they do to ya.

- "Santa Baby"
- "Jingle Bell Rock"
- "All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth"
- The aforementioned McCartney drivel
Man, this is too nauseating to continue. I really, really can't stand Christmas music.

I love Christmas. It cant start soon enough for me, sorry guys! I do have kids age 4 and 7 though.. . Im totally excited about it already, got nearly all the shopping done, just also ordered the Los Straitjackets Christmas album to go with my others (Mancini, Herb Alpert et al).
As for the Macca tune, its one of my faves, as i grew up to it, must've been 11ish when it came out so it brings back good memories.
The worst thing about Christmas this year? Ive got to work! (and for Americans!)
Merry Christmas one and all!
Dan.

I hate nearly all Christmas music except for 'Fairytale of New-York' by The Pogues which I love.
I used to like the Phil Spector Xmas stuff when I was younger but now they use it in shops all the time it gets on my nerves as much as all the rest.

I don't hate Christmas I just hate some of the songs, I've also got a soft spot for the holiday I have 3 kids a 2 year son, 4 year old girl, a 10 year old son
to get into the season I'll bust in The Ventures, Beach Boys, Straitjackets oh man the kids love it, and we try to stay away from the radio on X-mass eve, why you ask is all the crap they play all day and all night of x-mass, I'm also a big fan of the movie "A Chrsitmas story" over here in the pacific northwest for x-mass eve and x-mass day they air it all day for the last few years.

Yep, same down here. I usually end up watching it 2 or 3 times each year. Great Flick!
As for xmas tunes I dig the Rat Pack Xmas album and of course always throw on Elvis.
I try like hell to stay away from the xmas marketing buzzfest, but its tough. Now that I have a kid (his first xmas), I'm looking forward to it much more than usual.

I am fairly apathetic regarding Christmas, it's a big deal for the wife though so I try to be enthusiastic. The last few years I've spent most of my time off of work in the car driving 6 hours to Minneapolis/St Paul to see all of my in-laws and step in-laws that are spread all over the Twin Cities. If you've ever had to do a lot of driving in Minnesota in the winter you know that it's hard to keep up the spirit.
I can really only stomach Christmas music for a few days preceeding the holiday and I pretty much don't want to hear another note of it by noon on Christmas day. My faves: Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters, Esquivel, The Ventures, Lost Straitjackets etc... and I love the Grinch.

That is my absolute favorite Christmas song, then the Andy Williams Chrismas album. They contrast nicely.
