Hello!
The Lost Boys of Penzance snagged Instrumental Rock Track Of The Day honors at Garageband.com for the original tune Land of Milk and Money! On Oct. 28, 2007, LBoP will be featured on Garageband.com's Instrumental Rock front page. It wasn't easy being a decided minority amongst all those guitar hero clones and shredders! Surf rock ain't dead.
Garageband.com is a musician-oriented site where members review each other's work. The reviewers' comments are also reviewed by others. Combined with the fact that reviewers are not given the name of the band or the name of the tune when music is presented for review (to avoid any preconceptions), it's a rather nice system with checks and balances. People can and will pick apart a track...which is a good thing.
Land of Milk and Money came in out of "left field" for many members not accustomed to vintage stylings. A couple of reviewers picked up echoes of spaghetti western (unconscious effort on my part as the composer) and described it as "cowboy movie" music. Another called it a "bizarre 60's" track...understandable since LBoP doesn't produce trad sounds such as (for example) that produced by the band Longboard Ranch. Despite it all...LBoP got chosen as Track Of The Day as a result of some very enthusiastic reviews from Garageband.com members.
