the song itself. thanks

Which version?

Tiki

according to My Itunes, it's on....

by the apemen:
"you are being surfed" AND "7 inches of love"

by the sentinals:
"big surf" (called intoxico though)

by Man or Astroman
"Destroy all Astromen"

by the original surfaris
"bombora"

By Jim Waller and the Deltas
"the world of surf music" a decent comp with ridiculous artwork on ZYX music, a german label

by the Revels
"Intoxica" (who would have guessed?)

by Al Garcia & TRK
"Surf 'n' Soul"

by the Centurions
"Surf's up" ( a comp on on "Music Club" or "Music Collection Intrernational" , I actually cant really figure out what the label's called)

these are the versions I have, there must be many more!

geez, so many to choose from. it's on my list of tunes to learn so this is very helpful. carol

if you're gonna figure it out by ear, it helps to know many versions are played with dropped D tuning, I do at least.

the original version and my fave is by the "revels" form the album called "intoxica". the "neal nissenson" and "jim waller & the deltas" versions are all so very cool,it is one of those tunes i think that every one who plays it will play it differently. like chuch key real raw rootys surf music

Sundazed has a nice Revels best-of that contains lots of pre-surf instro rock-n-roll, most of them revolve around drinking...go figure! Smile

I say Learn the one By the Revels as most use that one as the source to copy from. But then play it in the style of the Apemen after you learn it.
their version is insane, I love it.
especially the mean voice that sternly says INTOXICA!!!

"Intoxica" (who would have guessed?)

It commemorates 's of the Revels ability to down a can of beer in record time, right? Or was than another one?

by Al Garcia & TRK
"Surf 'n' Soul"

Also on '64-'65: Exotic & Rockin' Instrumentals

by the Centurions
"Surf's up" ( a comp on on "Music Club" or "Music Collection International" , I actually can't really figure out what the label's called)

I have it on a compilation called (oddly enough) Bullwinkle Part II. I'm pretty sure it's available through Amazon.

It's also on

Surf Mania The Surf Teens

It's Only a Movie The Raybeats

The latter is very similar to the Jim Waller & the Deltas version, but with updated "sound." In the US the Deltas' version is on the Tony Hiller collection that has come out in so many versions and editions. I think the current title might be Surf Crazy.

For some reason my favorite version at the moment is the one by the Centurions, which sounds a lot like the Orginal Surfaris one. It's kind of hard to pick between them, actually. OS - very pure in sound; Centurions - gritty. This is a Church Key-style chamaeleon just as "Supertoneguitar" says. The Revels version has superimposed giggling and belching, etc., at various points, plus a mean voice saying "Intoxica!" I think the giggler for the Revels was Barbara ??? later Barbara Hiller. Or maybe she graces Church Key instead. I forget. AG&TRK do their patented Latin soul chatter.

The Revels guy you're trying to come up with is probably Norman Knowles.

I ama HUGE fan of The Revels. It can easily be played in E with standard tuning. I believe that is the key the original Revels tune is recorded in - possibly the MOAM version too.
