if you're gonna figure it out by ear, it helps to know many versions are played with dropped D tuning, I do at least. —Rules to live by #314: |

the original version and my fave is by the "revels" form the album called "intoxica". the "neal nissenson" and "jim waller & the deltas" versions are all so very cool,it is one of those tunes i think that every one who plays it will play it differently. like chuch key real raw rootys surf music —Facebook pages theSupertones |

Sundazed has a nice Revels best-of that contains lots of pre-surf instro rock-n-roll, most of them revolve around drinking...go figure! Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

I say Learn the one By the Revels as most use that one as the source to copy from. But then play it in the style of the Apemen after you learn it. Jeff(bigtikidude) —Jeff(bigtikidude) |

It commemorates 's of the Revels ability to down a can of beer in record time, right? Or was than another one?

I have it on a compilation called (oddly enough) Bullwinkle Part II. I'm pretty sure it's available through Amazon. It's also on Surf Mania The Surf Teens It's Only a Movie The Raybeats The latter is very similar to the Jim Waller & the Deltas version, but with updated "sound." In the US the Deltas' version is on the Tony Hiller collection that has come out in so many versions and editions. I think the current title might be Surf Crazy. For some reason my favorite version at the moment is the one by the Centurions, which sounds a lot like the Orginal Surfaris one. It's kind of hard to pick between them, actually. OS - very pure in sound; Centurions - gritty. This is a Church Key-style chamaeleon just as "Supertoneguitar" says. The Revels version has superimposed giggling and belching, etc., at various points, plus a mean voice saying "Intoxica!" I think the giggler for the Revels was Barbara ??? later Barbara Hiller. Or maybe she graces Church Key instead. I forget. AG&TRK do their patented Latin soul chatter. Last edited: Jan 02, 2008 09:55:01 |

The Revels guy you're trying to come up with is probably Norman Knowles. I ama HUGE fan of The Revels. It can easily be played in E with standard tuning. I believe that is the key the original Revels tune is recorded in - possibly the MOAM version too. ~B~ |
