Nice! How did you get hooked on the Latin influence? —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Thanks Brian! Growing up in my neck of the woods, it was inevitable, LOL The soundtrack to "Repo Man" introduced me to The Plugz (Cruzados, Tito & Tarantulas) and I always dug their sound. Then I got the Del-Fi compilation CD "Big Surf" and realized most of my favorite tracks were by the Sentinals. In fact, most of my favorite surf, in general, was Spanish or Latin-influenced, so I wanted to explore that. Thanks to Danny Snyder's posts on this site, we've incorporated some Peruvian Chicha, and are planning on adding some bachata to the repertoire. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the comment! Look up a latin music style called bolero, they work great as moody surf instrumentals. —Danny Snyder I am now playing trumpet with Prince Buster tribute band 'Balzac' Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

Thanks, Danny! We started off with boleros and still play Besame Mucho and Quien Sera (Sway) in our set, along with mambos like Patricia and La Negra Tomasa. We even play a merengue of sorts and managed to shoehorn guaguancó into El Cumbanchero. We took our band name from Besame Mucho after hearing the Beatles' recording. At the end of every chorus, they would yell, "Chachaboom!" which we thought was hilarious. Dave — |
