This is fantastic news! I gave a cursory listen at Bandcamp and was blown away! I'll definitely be buying this and giving it some in depth listens.

"It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea

Great news, indeed! Since this Hepcats release was announced, Paul has uploaded a whole bunch of his catalog to BandCamp for downloading. There are albums from the Bel Airs, PJ and the Galaxies, the Packards, the Surfaris, the Packards, the Good Guys, the Duo Tones, and PJ solo, with more to come. Most of the material has been previously released, but not all. I've noticed that every few days, another album is added to the BandCamp store. Very cool!!!

I just listened to a bit of the samples. Excellent stuff!

One thing I really like about Paul’s playing is how clean and precise he is. This is a man who has put some real effort into his playing.

My thanks to those who have responded to this thus far. I am eager to hear from all of you as to what you think of the album, as this is my first release in nearly two decades. I am continuing to upload my stuff to this page; my goal is to get pretty much my entire discography up there for you to enjoy, plus some more collections (like "Hepcats at Ajax") of rare and previously unreleased stuff, but more electricish (and thus "surfier").

I just listened to this is wanted to share my thoughts.

Refreshing is the word which comes to mind. The energy and sprit of Surf with a mostly acoustic sound. If you wonder what a first generation Surf band would sound like in 2025, wonder no more, because this is as real as it gets.

The skill level of the playing is top notch, and the the production values are as well. Actually, the entire album is more than slightly reminiscent of some of Chet Atkins work, where he was a stretching out with other artists whom had earned his respect. I really can't say enough positive about the production quality. you hear the instruments clearly, the mix is very balanced and it avoids the snare of having the lead guitar so far above the rest of the mix that it dominates. Instead, it's a balanced delivery where every part is audible and complimentary. If you can provide any insights into the recording process, Mr. Johnson, I'd love to hear about it.

Mr. Moto may have been recorded some time ago, but it's for certain that Paul Johnson has continued to grow as a musician, and this is shown to great advantage in this album. I would recommend it without reservation for Surf Guitar fans, or guitar fans of any stripe. It does not get better than this.
