Hello everyone!
I just picked up a Jay Turser Mosman mosrite-style guitar. It has soapbar p90s in it, and while they're fine, I'm considering swapping them out for something different.
In terms of replacement soapbar P90s, which would be better for surf: overwound or underwound?
I'm also considering stringing the guitar up with Thomastik flatwounds for a vintage vibe. Not sure how they would interact with the winding.
Thoughts? Thanks!

A lot of vintage Mosrites had rather hot pickups, so if you want an easily overdriven sound go for overwound (doesn't mean it will sound exactly like a Mosrite). If you want clean, go the other way.

Like above said, if you're going for a typical Mosrite sound then overwound. I associate P90s as a really hot single coil.
My main is a Jaguar with soapbar pickups, and I use Thomastik 12s exclusively (with a plain G) and I can't imagine a better combination. Thomastiks are really bright for flats; you'll be in twang city.

I have multiple guitars with P90s and have tried many sets of P90s. In my personal experience, I've found most hot P90s have a lot of mids. You may want to think about your overall setup you'll be using when picking pickups.
