I'm thinking we need a home for lefty's......a place to show guitar photos, share stories and rag on righties!! Nah, just kidding! I'll start with "why do they call us goofy?". Maybe there are no more lefty's....in which case i'll just talk to myself. I know the TomorrowMen have a lefty. There's a lot of lefty's that play music as a rightie!! What's your thoughts on that? For the record, i play upside down......left handed body strung right handed. I don't know why.....i just taught myself to play guitar that way. It was a natural thing and i've never had any lessons. For me it's true that it's almost impossible to play some chords but i wouldn't use those chords anyway so......I've gotten pretty good at reading righties in jams or whatever so i feel comfortable among them. No, i don't have left handed scissors!! Some of the nicest people in the world are righties so i suggest we go easy on them here. They're only human.

I play right-handed guitar, but I'm left-handed at everything else. That includes drumming. I have to set up my kit backwards to be able to play it properly.

^^ same here. Buying a lefty guitar was not an option when I started learning. Sometimes I wonder if I would have been a better guitar player if I did it the other way.

Jeff, yep, WTMI.
As for the lefty thing, well, I could think of a song for them, does anyone know that tune about short people by Randy Newman?
How about some new words for our friends left of center...

Spud.....you're killing me with..."As for the lefty thing, well, I could think of a song for them..." That's scarry......all we are is a "them"? (sounds like jive talk)!! I play drums left handed too but i set up right handed and don't cross over to the hi-hat....check out Dennis Wilson sometime.....i play like that...left hand on the hi-hat, right on the snare and i cross over to my ride. I didn't have a left handed guitar untill i was thirty something. I played right handed guitars upside down.....really uncomfortable sometimes and i would have the tendancy to brush the volume/tone controls, changing the sound and in the middle of a session!! I actually used tape to hold them in place once i got a sound during important sessions. Actually, playing guitar and drums like this makes me different, which i strive to be, and makes a good topic for conversation and that's why i never learned "the right way".

Heh, good to see you've got a sense of huma about it all, I was just kidding around.
Although you do have me intrigued with the upside down back the front playing, no matter whether you're a righty or a lefty, that must take some doing.
And of course as always "Viva la differance!"

I am a lefty, but learned to play right handed. They told my mom at the music store that all my power would be in my left hand, so that's the way I learned.
My drummer is also a lefty, who sets up his kit all left handed. Drives right handed drummers crazy.

Ron, why not determine the resistance on the pots that you like and bypass with fixed resistors? No one needs to know.

I'm a southpaw in almost everything I do. I can strum a few chords right handed, but that's about it. When I picked up a guitar, it felt more comfortable to hold it the way a lefty would play.
I play a 2000 Blonde left handed Fender American Deluxe Strat with Bareknuckle Apache single coils in it. It is a great guitar, however, I would like to get my hands on a left handed Fender AVRI Jazzmaster or Jaguar. Unfortunately Fender will only make a lefty through the custom shop and charge $4000 for it! At this point I am looking at Warmoth to build my own left handed Jazzmaster (they do not offer a lefty Jag). Every once-and-a-while I see a vintage Jag or JM on ebay ('64 jag went for $3500) and the Japanese Reissue Jag or JM for around $750 to $800. I'm a little hesitant to go with the CIJ version. I like the quality of the American made instruments so much better. Have any other lefties dealt with this issue? It just sucks not having the selection righties have. I know we are backwards, but dang, all Fender has to do is flip the jig over and make a few lefty guitars!!! Growing up playing baseball I was considered valuable for being a left handed pitcher and hitter, why can't that be the same for a left handed guitarist?!?! j/k
Anyhow, sorry about going off there....
A good place to check out for left handed guitars is www.southpawguitars.com Right handers should check it out too...there's some sweet custom shop Strats on there.
Also, check out Mark's Guitars here for a look at some nice Fender lefties: http://www.marksguitars.com/4%20Fenders.htm
You know, I guess the one positive thing about being a left handed guitarist is only a select few will ask you if they can play your guitar! haha
Thank God there aren't right and left handed amps.....

Also one slightly used bag of skyhooks.

Yo Spud.....i'll take the hammers!! blazinsaddle5.....me too, i just picked up the guitar and played it that way! Except for the C- diminished 4th...i can figure out most chords!! I keed, i keed...i don't know what a C- diminished chord is...heck i don't even know what diminished means. I think my brain is somewhat "diminished" and thus, i'm a lefty. Yup! i'm a goofy foot too.
blazinsaddle5: can you post a picture of your Strat? You also said: "I guess the one positive thing about being a left handed guitarist is only a select few will ask you if they can play your guitar!" That's not true for an upside down lefty.....any rightie can play my guitar but the body is upside down. Jeez, all this backwards upside down stuff is making me dizzy....ahh, what ever happened to Tommy Roe? What would happen if a lefty walked into an audition? Does he/she get a fair chance, or what? Most of the bands i've been in...i'm the one that put it together so nobody ever said anything to me about being a lefty or i could just fire 'em!! hahaha I only fired one guy in my career....and i still regret it to this day! Time to get some waves....and then play some surf music. Wait a minute......Danny, where's your bass player? Aint he goofy? Spud also wrote:"Heh, good to see you've got a sense of huma about it all" some "huma" and a bit of cheez.......mmmm yummy.

Very astute Ron. Yes, and I can't begin to tell you what joy it is doing synchronized guitar moves next to a left handed player
