This is a repost that Unsteady Freddie has put on alot of the yahoo groups.
I figured some here might wanna see it.
Jeff(btd)

I have some unbelieveably exciting news to share with everyone

Some people might know that I have started a new record company,
LIFEGUARD RECORDS (www.myspace.com/lifeguardrecords). Plans were in
the works to issue as the label launch a compilation of music by
modern world-wide surf/instro artists. This LIFEGUARD album was to
be distributed by SPINOUT RECORDS, a label run by EDDIE ANGEL and his
Wife Melanie (www.spinoutmusic.com).

However, that project has been moved off until early next year. Why?
Well, to make way for, 'FUZZ FOR THE HOLIDAYS, 2' by none other than
my childhood hero DAVIE ALLAN and his band THE ARROWS!! It, too, is
a LIFEGUARD RECORDS release, distributed by SPINOUT RECORDS.

The album will be available shortly....just a couple of weeks, MAX.
One can purchase this from 1)DAVIE ALLAN directly, through his
website www.davieallan.com, and I suspect,
www.myspace.com/davieallanandthearrows, but I am not sure of the
latter; 2)from me, via LIFEGUARD RECORDS, www.lifeguardrecords.com;
and also at my SURF-ROCK SHINDIGS at 'Otto's Shrunken Head' in NYC
every first Saturday of the month and 3)SPINOUT RECORDS,
www.spinoutrecords.com

I have worked with DAVIE personally, diligently, lovingly to make
this record a reality....partnered with EDDIE and MELANIE ANGEL, and
my Program Director for my radio shows, and webmaster for LIFEGUARD
RECORDS....Dan Coleman

But, hey, why stop there with exciting news????

OK, CALIFORNIA......GET READY FOR A 3-DAY BLITZ OF LIVE CONCERTS
STARRING DAVIE ALLAN & THE ARROWS!! THAT'S RIGHT!! And each concert
will also be a dual celebration: the release of DAVIE's new album,
and a label launch of LIFEGUARD RECORDS; party on!!!

Here are the 3 dates, cities, venues, and support artists....and man,
let me tell you....this is going to be just u8nbelieveable

NOVEMBER 8

Note: this is an ALL-AGES SHOW. Doors open: 8:00 pm, possibly
7:30 pm; cover is $10.00. Poster art is forthcoming.

NOVEMBER 10

set at $12 (advance), $15 (door, day of show).

SO, HOW DID I DO, FOLKS? IS THIS AWESOME, OR WHAT?

I AM SO OVERWHELMINGLY EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO BRING THIS RECORD OUT,
AND TO BE PRESENTING THESE SHOWS.

Hope to see a lot of you at any one (or all!) or these shows.

As more information is fed to me, I will pass it on here.

When posters becomes available, I will post them on
www.catch-the-waves.com,
and my MySpace page, www.myspace.com/unsteadyfreddie.

GOD BLESS DAVIE ALLAN -- THE KING OF THE FUZZ GUITAR -- AND HIS KICK-
ASS BAND, THE ARROWS.

Im curious, why doesnt freddie post here?

some people really like yahoo groups and how they are sent to them in e-mails. I'm assuming that is what Freddies deal is. He said he forgot his loggin password.

thats why we have not had everybody follow us over from cowabunga, and the sg101 yahoo group.

some press reviews for the new x-mas cd, and some of the re-issues that came out recently.

New Release — Davie Allan and the Arrows Album!

Throughout the ‘60s, Davie Allan established himself as the King of the Fuzz Guitar
by composing and recording classic guitar instrumentals for some two dozen exploitation
films. His manic, buzzsaw guitar tone became the sonic trademark of a whole subgenre,
the biker flick. One of his instrumental hits, “Blues’ Theme” from The Wild Angels,
remains an evocative rock-instrumental classic.

“Allan’s rich sense of melody and atmosphere drew much from pre-eminent 60’s
sound track kingpins Henry Mancini and John Barry, but with Allan’s warped fuzz-OD
whammy bar shimmy-shake proclivities. Allan could meld both sweet and sour into a
convincing presentation, delivered with such just-for-the-Hell-of-it, because-it’s-there
disregard. Allan’s overall style, in fact, is a breath takingly well chosen manner of
assaultive barrage, one whose sensitivity in terms of notes per solo is practically stoic in
comparison to the immoderate noodling of so many contemporaries. The breadth and
ambition with which Allan wielded his axe was, and still is today, nothing less than
stunning.” –Jonny Whiteside ( L.A. Weekly, 2005).

Today, many of Allan’s classic 60’s recordings have been reissued on six CDs by Sundazed Records, giving a whole new generation access to his unique guitar style. Davie continues to record not only his own compositions but also classic tunes known to all audiences. His latest CD, “Fuzz for the Holidays 2,” released on Spinout Records, features nine Christmas classics, including, “Jingle Bells,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” It also includes three original songs written especially for this CD.

“Santa on the Run” will have you grinning like you’d just found a rare, alternate version
45 of “Telstar” or something in that vein. “A Winter Song” is just priceless, a
mind-blowing audio adventure. “Seasoned Greetings” kicks axe! “The interpretation of
Christmas classics is spot-on, as expected. Davie wrings so much energy out of these
familiar tunes, and morphs them into high-voltage, rock anthems. I’ve heard people observe that the wizardry of TSO (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) is impressive with their seasonal tunes... well, I can report that every cranked-up rendering of holiday melodies Davie has created pegs the VU meter... there is no cultural equal. What TSO intends to achieve with pomp and showmanship, Davie Allan surpasses with careful melodic craftsmanship. His music is like a lightning strike -immediate and irresistible.”
–Rod Ice (June 2007).

Davie is featured in a new documentary by filmmaker Nick Mead, “MY FIRST GUITAR,” a film of the world's greatest guitar players talking about what it took to pick up that first guitar. Featuring: Slash, Lemmy, Brian Wilson, Pete Seeger, Les Paul, Bill Wyman, Hubert Sumlin, Dave Stewart, Tom Delonge, Joe Perry, Nils Lofgren, Phil Cullen, Ani Difranco, Davie Allan, Albert Lee, Matthew Sweet, The Bangles, Harry Dean Stanton and many others. www.nickmeadfilm.com

Jeff(bigtikidude)

I am really happy that Davie has a label behind him. Hats off to Freddie for putting together a credible label. Good luck to him and Lifeguard Records.

Of course! But, we have played with Davie before... I tried to talk him into doing a Utah show the following Sunday, but no go, they are eager to get back to L.A. Sorry San Francisco-- maybe someday.

thx to Big Tiki Dude for posting my Yahoo Groups master post re: my working closely with DAVIE ALLAN, and my BIG PLANS for him

sorry to BRIAN NEAL and BIG TIKI DUDE (who both reached out to me very recently) to become an active member in this fantastic forum

well, going forward, I promise to keep people up to date on what I'm doing, and get involved in some of the terrific discussion threads

long story short....I have been a DAVIE ALLAN & THE ARROWS fan from childhood, when I was around 12/13 years old, and I heard BLUE'S THEME, ran out and bought the TOWER single, and played it over and over and over (I still have it!!); I really could not believe what I was hearing; I mean, that cycle roaring, and that fuzz guitar comes blasting out of my tinny speakers....mesmerized, I was (still am)

2004, I get to the WipeOut Festival in Calella Spain, and met Davie, and witnessed for the first and only time, him and THE ARROWS live; intense! I loved every fuzzy note....

we stayed in touch, a friendship built; I visited his home (pinch me someone) in March when I came out to S. CAL with MISTER NEUTRON when I hosted 4 surf shows 4 nights in a row; got to noodle with his FENDER 'Holy Grail' on his bed, no less (hey don;t get any ideas!!), posted pictures on this a few times

Davie and I, in a nutshell, have become spiritual brothers and deep friends; yeah, my childhood hero....

when he was planning on releasing his FUZZ FOR THE HOLIDAYS 2 album on his own (his first came out thru LITTLE STEVEN, an alleged champion of independent music....I will say only this, he did not deliver, he let DAVIE down dramatically) -- so I approached him about bringing it to me and my lable LIFEGUARD RECORDS, which would then be distributed through EDDIE ANGEL's SPINOUT RECORDS; I mean, what better endorsement than EDDIE ANGEL?

ultimately DAVIE said, let's go for it!! He, and I, and EDDIE & MELANIE ANGEL went thru a lot of stress (artwork wasn't finished due to the artist's computer crashes)...but eventually it got finished, and mastered, and printed

I expect my copies within days

you can purchase it NOW thru WWW.LIFEGUARDRECORDS.COM; Davie is also selling it thru www.davieallan.com (not sure that is set up yet, though); and also www.spinoutmusic.com -- hope some of you will jump to my website and purchase one; can use all the support I can muster. Even though I laid out my own money to help move this forward....it never was about the money.

There is also a MySpace page, just starting to pick up a little speed, www.myspace.com/lifeguardrecords - please stop by - if U R a MySpace member, please click to be added as a Friend....

As Big Tiki Dude has posted, there are 3 concert dates

NOV 8 - SAN DIEGO (WINSTONS), with SLACKTONE and THE CALIFORNIA DEL REYS

NOV 9 - RIVERSIDE (RED PLANET), with THE CALIFORNIA DEL REYS, THE HEXXERS, JASON LEE & THE R.I.P. TIDES

NOV 10 - SANTA CRUZ (MOE'S ALLEY), with POLLO DEL MAR and THE CONCAVES

I am so proud, so excited about putting this together

Re: comments about RIVERSIDE

I assure you, I hit so many venues, clubs in the LA and beaches areas,,,,,man, I was drained from all of it

The response was weak, and slow, and doubting -- not sure why

But THE RED PLANET showed so much love, enthusiasm.....IT FELT RIGHT; and when I spoke with people from the club, and instant love vibe and trust was forged.....it was obvious this was the way to go

Plus this is a fairly new venue -- it's beautiful.....and it's connected to a record store....a built-in promo---they can play the music non-stop; school kids pack the store (college, high school) - I raise that b/c this is an ALL-AGES VENUE -- so we should draw well

plus THE HEXXERS, alone, will jam the place...adding great exposure for DAVIE; JASON LEE and the R.I.P. TIDES also have a strong following

I should add that DAVIE ALLAN & THE ARROWS will be on CLINT BEACHWOOD's show NOV 8, along with THE CALIFORNIA DEL REYS

special shout out to THE CALIFORNIA DEL REYS who are helping with equipment for DAVIE and his band-mates

anyway, enough out of me, for now

I will return soon

also, I will scout the other forum subjects and see if I can be of any help, see what I can contribute

catch a wave, dudes, dudettes
