The Sea-Jays – A Touch of Terror CD (Self-Released)

From Los Angeles, California comes six tasty tracks of reimagined movie themes with a surfed-out seasoning. The arranging and producing was conducted by Corky James who enlisted the musical assistance of Sam Bolle on bass and Matt Laug on drums. “Touch Of Evil” and “Experiment in Terror” are the two Henry Mancini tunes with “Experiment” featuring Dave Klein on drums. For fans of Sean Connery’s James Bond, we have “Goldfinger” and “007 And Counting.” Fast forward to (relatively) more recent times and there’s the “Game of Thrones” theme and the unique inclusion of Tikiyaki Orchestra’s “Zero Gravity.”

The musicianship on this recording is outstanding. The flavors of surf and Tiki stand out while not detracting from the familiarity of the originals. Corky’s career in music has taken him down many roads and these influences are present to spice up the recipe. I tend to view cover songs as something to use sparingly on a recording, so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed these tunes. I recommend this outing and hope that the skills involved will be releasing original compositions in the near future.

The CD clocks in at an impressive 20 minutes and is housed in a cardboard sleeve. The artwork was created by Jason Weckerly of Kustom Deluxe Design fame. Pick up one of the 250 copies on CD or download the digital version on Bandcamp: https://thesea-jays.bandcamp.com/album/a-touch-of-terror
