Permalink Beyond Fender? Beyond 6 Strings?

Upon a recent road trip (mini tour) up the coast, we stayed with John Blair and we did pick up guitars for a moment over coffee. John's fingers flow on his main Strat but he also showed off this beautiful classic Rick 12 string. Going through some verb it could have been classic Byrds or even 90s shoegaze like LUSH. It was good fun. Paul Fritz of Kelp has been spotted playing 12 strings as well. Be it a Fender Bass VI, a Mosrite, Di Pinto ... clearly there are options for a twangy and tasty sonic delivery. My latest surprise find was a Reverend that seemed very well suited for surf instrumentals. Anyone care to chime in? Meantime, here's the legend with his Rick!

Mark Malibu uses a 12 string on several of the Wasaga recordings to great surf effect.

Nice Rick!! I love my 330/12. Fantastic guitar made even better by some Creamery pickups and a sane wiring scheme.

I let go of a classic Microfrets I used for surf so I could buy a Clam Shack guitar from Mel Waldorf's Alameda Guitars! Surf is way, way, way up with this baby!

I’m surprised that there wasn’t more 12 string Surf.

KAR120C - Mel Waldorf is such a wonderful mad scientist! revmike, chiba, synchro thanks for chiming in as well. The heads up re: Wasaga and 12 strings in their music is appreciated too.

I picked up one of those Squier Jazzmaster 12 strings when they came out. The pickups are way too hot, but I plan on swapping those out. I've used it on some non-surf stuff so far, but hope to work it into something verbtastic soon.

I'd be happy to have a 12 string and try it out for some reverb-filled instrumentals. However, I'm unlikely to try one of the Fender 12 strings like the Squier Jazzmaster because the headstock just looks like a droopy sock to me and it just kills the look in my mind.

The Spiratones latest single features 12-string electric - most notably in the major key sections.

Haha. The droopy sock thing is real, but I kinda like it!
