The folks at Hi-Tide posted (to Facebook) the following today:
"After 10 wonderful years in Asbury Park, it's time for us to move on. There will not be a Summer Holiday 2025. The event may return in the future, under the right circumstances.

Disappointing, but probably understandable given the logistics and cost involved with something like this.
I don't know Magdalena or Vincent, but I'd like to invite y'all down to Richmond, Virginia, to consider it for a future Summer Holiday. I'll show you around, we can check out lots of venues I'm sure would be happy to host a music festival. RVA is a great, central location for the East Coast with plenty of mass transit options and freeway access!

Really interesting. Did anybody here go to the last one?
I LOVED 2019. It was packed, it was a different crowd than other ones I've been to, great vibe, cool venue.
I was there for one night of 2023 (would have done more but it was a happy surprise that I could do one). I only really got to see a small slice. Maybe a little smaller but didn't feel like it was struggling. Admittedly I'd already seen a bunch of the acts too.
I have to admit that I wasn't as big of a fan of the 2024 lineup -- a lot less surf.
That said, I also understand that they deal with a lot that we aren't privy to. No idea what sort of money they pull in off this label (or if their side labels eat into the costs etc). No idea if Asbury Lanes is a nightmare to work with. And shit, a married couple running a business together might just want to create some space in their lives.

I applaud Hi-Tide for their monumental efforts for the surf community. That said, I've been less and less than thrilled with the direction in which they've gone; both with the festival, and with the label. I'll leave it at that...

The only thing I would say is the Hi-Tide show this year was packed with people young and old, men and women. I don't know about everywhere else, but a lot of times around here the only people who show up to see surf bands are other surf bands. I think having a variety of bands brings a bigger, more diverse crowd. The Surfrajettes (a band who don't get as much cred here as they deserve) are playing here tonight and Kyle Eldridge (a Joe Maphis-style hotrod hillbilly guitarist (and singer!) is opening for them. I may be wrong, but I think the way to make surf less niche and to broaden the audience is to not be so religious about it. If you'd seen the absolute joy Charlie Halloran and the Tropicals (with their mish-mash of New Orleans/lounge/tiki sound) brought to the show this year!

Agreed, both times I was really impressed by the sort of crowd they pulled in. And while I understand the notion that they're heading in a different direction, they did put out records by The Scimitars, Surfrajettes and Babalooneys this year -- that's hardly a bad showing.

Now I'm sad I'll never get to attend one. Always meant to, but could never quite make it work. I'm a fan of the label and what they do for the genre.

Yeah, it's hard to get all the way to the other side of the country, especially if (like me) you dislike flying. I hadn't made it to the Hi-Tide event yet, but planned to. Getting to the SG101-fest in California is nearly impossible for me.
