I have a Classic Player Jaguar and want to make it more vintage sounding. Would replacing the pickups with a set of Pure Vintage '65 Jaguar® Pickups upgrade the sound or just a lateral move? Back in the day I had a ‘64 Jag and my CP Jaguar just doesn’t sound quite right to my ear.

I put Fender Pure Vintage 65' in my Squier and it is just awesome.
I had used 62' in another modified Jag as well.
The 65' are brighter and chimey whereas the 62s are darker.

I have the ‘62s in my Warmoth Jaguar, and they are as Iceratz says, a bit warmer, but not so dark as to lose the character of the Jaguar. Either the ‘62 or ‘65 Pure Vintage are a good choice.
