Permalink Positive power of Surf music (a post about gratitude)

New Topic

When things are going rough, surf music seems to be a beacon of fun, positivity, and of course, great music.
My family has been dealing with a tough situation with the health of a younger member. When not spending time at the hospital with that loved one, surf music is lifting my spirits. Social media and the news certainly does not!
To Brian and everyone who contributes with interesting and fun posts and information, thank you. I check-in here and see what everyone is up to.
I know I am not alone in that so many of us are dealing with challenges with our own selves or family members, friends, etc. And if you currently are not, then maybe you did at times in the past have to deal with unimaginably tough life situations.
Anyways, I just wanted to share my gratitude. I know things will get better and this place is helping.

Hi Lorne, those are some really nice thoughts. I totally agree. Music in general, but especially surf music and especially playing it, is therapy for me. Just the other day I said to someone, I think I just need to play more music… turn off the news/social media/etc and play.

Thanks for the positive thoughts, Lome. During these dark times, we certainly need to focus on positivity, and on the people and things that make us happy. There's a lot for which to be thankful. I think I'll crank up the reverb. Surf's up!

Hi Lorne! Surf music and surf community always helped to keep my head up in hard times and even led to some amazing changes in my life. Our hearts are with you and your family, hope these health issues will be solved soon, it’s so tough, I know..

Nice post Lorne, and a great reminder about gratitude. I hope things smooth out for you and your family. And yes, listen to some surf music!

Lorne, you are right, SG101 is where the rubber meets the road. We all try to be a very encouraging bunch! Keeping you and your family in prayer.

I concur. There's a kind of uplifting energy in our reverby twangy guitars and "snare-y" drums. It is a (minor) mystery how and why its melancholy minor chords and moody drip should make a certain type of music fan so blissfully happy, but it does. If you get it, you get it.
