Came across this - wouldn't have imagined Iron Butterfly played Mosrite Guitars through Fender amps. Great backline, but stupid video from 1970. Enjoy!

funny, me neither, but watching in that context shows how close the 'Butterfly are to the surf sound. |

thanks for sharing. so many bands from this era seemed to have the forever solos, but i think these guys were up in the top ten. — |

Nice footage! I had never seen that before. Thanks for posting. I have always assumed Iron Butterfly had a similar deal with Mosrite that The Ventures had. They used them on their first album, "Heavy", with Danny Weis on lead, and continued to use Mosrites when Erik Brann replaced Weis for In a Gada da Vida, and the third album, "Ball." Fortunately, they found that Mosrites were perfect for the sound they were after, especially when combined with fuzz. When their lineup changed again, by 1970, they were using different axes. I had never seen them using the Fender Showmans, during the band's heyday but perhaps IB found them more reliable (and louder) than the Vox Super Beatles, which they also used. Iron Butterfly tended to sound better in the studio than live, so if I were in their shoes, I would have chosen a stack of Dual Showmans for live work as well. I believe in that first video link, it is the studio version of "In the Time of Our Lives" dubbed over the concert footage. For any of you Mosrite/Vox Continental fans out there, try listening to Butterfly's 3rd album, "Ball." It's got different styles of music, and I think their best effort. Best cut, Belda-Beast. Another unlikely user of the Mosrite Ventures Model was Fred Sonic Smith, 2nd guitarist of The MC5, who used one for Kick out the Jams. |

Very different, BUT, on an older Butterfly Website (not sure if it is still there since they have updated it recently), they had stated to get the "Butterfly Sound," their Original gear was made up of VOX Super Beatles (which were heavily modified) and Mosrite "Venture Model" guitars. .......make the Mos' of it, |

Hokey, yes. Bad album sync-ing too. However, I thought I saw you and Rich somewhere in that crowd of kids and figured you'd rememeber the gig. |

DP, that's hitting below the waist Bro (LOL) I saw those damn things SELL on E-Bay for $53,000 and change! I'll bet you Ed King and the rest of Strawberry Alarm Clock wish they still had them! p.s. It's times like these, that you wish you had won the lottery...... .......make the Mos' of it, |

I just saw them on t.v. tonight performing ina gadda (however you spell it). It was one of those PBS "remembering the 60's" type programs. They sound just the same and were still playing Mosrite Ventures model bass and guitar. (changed out pickups, though--Jazz's in the bass and I don't know what in the guitar). |
