I saw this reliced strat on sale at musicians friend. Normally no big deal, but apparently it's on sale because it's a blem... How do you blemish a reliced strat? Don't people normaly pay extra for relicing?

That's funny! How would anyone know it was a blem? That's honesty!

Undo the damage?

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Wood putty? Shiest! I'm kicking myself for not getting a reliced strat or tele when I first saw them around '95 or '96

OUTSIDE!

I checked out the link, and had to laugh to see, in red letters, "minor scratches, this one only." I thought to myself - Minor scratches? Where? Twisted Evil Razz

I find all relic'd strats to be kind of funny. Rolling Eyes

Yeah, they're pretty rediculous. I actually got to see them do it at the factory in Corona. This lady was sitting there at her desk with a ring of keys just wacking away at a perfectly new body. Kinda painful. Just to think someone's gonna pay 3 times as much to have it beat to sh*t. I don't get it.

I also never understood why anyone would want to buy a (new) guitar that's all beat up. So you can tell your friends that a pro at the Fender factory professionally screwed your guitar? If I spent that much money on a guitar (and I seriously doubt I ever will) I wouldn't want it to look like someone tied it to the bumper of their car and dragged it.

Also I think that every ding and scratch on a guitar has its own story. If I ever happen to damage my guitar (I try hard to avoid it) I want to know it was me, not some dude that artificially mutilated it.

Do I get this right, Fender introduced a range of guitars where they deliberately beat them up to boost their value?

"OK Bill this one looks like it may go for a few bucks more if we throw it down stairs a few times then fetch the angle grinder.."

Confused

This is similar to the problem I have when I try to buy new jeans - I have to go some way to find just a nice pair of jeans that hasn't been attacked with a knife or otherwise 'pre-aged' by the designer...

I once saw a story on some show (had to've been 20 years ago, or so) about this guy that made big bucks from blasting holes in jeans with a shotgun. Folks were actually paying $100+ for these! Shocked

There was one time, around that same time frame, when a coworker and I were passing in opposite directions at a narrow part of the work area. I stepped slightly off balance, and smacked my right knee into a seam of the roller line (stationary), tearing a sizable hole in my jeans. I stopped, looked, and exclaimed - "Cool! Now my jeans are fashionable!"
