New Topic

A question for anyone who owns Dick Dale's Summer Surf record - I'm trying to find out publishing information on the song "Star of David" Is there anything listed on the CD?

Thanks,
Mel

Mel,

I'll check when I get home this evening.

-Warren

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

sorry Warren beat you to it.
On the inside of the booklet it says Masson as the writter,
and on the back of the booklet that pictures the back of the LP it says
ascap.

hope that helps.

are the Meshuggas gonna cover it?
great song!!!

Thanks Jeff, that's what I'm looking for. Still can't find info on it on ASCAP or Harry Fox's websites.

Meshugga Beach Party recorded it for our upcoming album and I'm just trying to get everything "kosher" so to speak. :o)

Mel,
Since DD did it and we all know hes a big ham.
can he be a Kosher ham.

can't wait to hear your version.

Kosher ham - I like it!

On the US Copyright office site, I found the song registered to Don P. Mason.

Thanks again,
Mel

on the vinyl it is too:

Thanks. I emailed Dick to ask if he remembered who wrote the song and he wrote back promptly:
"it was so long ago i really dont remember except it was given to me to play when i was with capital records...d"
So, maybe these days he's no longer "King of the Surf Guitar" but in addition to "Guitar Legend" we can add "prompt and courteous email responder"

Mel

I'm gonna go
Off Topic
for just a second here.
Wow! I never realized that Steve Douglas wrote Banzai Washout (and others that Dick recorded, as seen here). Dick's version is not my favorite though-for such a powerful song, I feel like he kind of held back.

Now back to some Mogen David! Very Happy

On the inside of the booklet it says Masson as the writter,

Jeff,
Is that Paul Masson? I hear he wrote no song before its time.

The Thunderchiefs

I got to work with Steve Douglas once. He produced a demo of a band i was in a long time ago. I don't remember the demo.....i just remember asking him about Duane Eddy and The Rebel Rousers. He told me he did a lot of sessions with Phil Spector too. I gave him two Duane Eddy record sleeves i had..."Have Twang Will Travel" and another one that he said he would get him to sign for me......and i never heard from him again!! I still have the vinyl......but no sleeves!
