Permalink Firewire/USB mixers?

New Topic

Any of you guys familiar with these things? We're looking to possibly turn our rehearsal space into a semi-recording area using the pc, and this seems like the simplest way to go to get all 4 of us into the computer, track wise...thoughts?

The Disasternauts

Don't have expereince with those, but from what I've heard, look into the firewire rather than USB. I think it might be more suitable for the traffic you're going to put through it. As always, take this with a grain of salt, as I havn't used either one.
Good luck,
Ran

The Scimitars

I've been using the MIO 2882 + DSP for a couple years. Incredible unit. Mac only at this time, fits nicely under a 15" Powerbook, connects via Firewire.

Yes, Firewire is an advance over USB for audio, particularly multichannel. So, if you are serious, Firewire is the way to go.

The MIO ain't cheap, $1500-$1900 depending on where you get it. The DSP adds lots of cool effects to the process of recording. I always tack on a soft knee limiter to the process.

Lots of inputs, 8 channels Mic I/O, ADAT, Digital. Incredible mixer. High quality mic pres, very excellent A/D converter. Crude (Beta) record console that does a great job. 24/96. And more...

I used this on all my Surf Coasters recordings, as well as the jazz groups I record locally.
