I'm really looking forward to this show at the Hotel Utah in SF today. Thought I'd get a thread going for discussion, pics, and reviews.
Who else will be there? I assume Ferenc and Bill will show up.
I hope to see many SG101ers there.
Ferenc, bring some swag.

I was thinking after seeing Daikaju last night, I would love to see this show.
But I will have to settle for The Maruaders,CHUM, Outterwave, and Reventlos.

Please post reviews pics of the Hotel Utah show.

You better believe that I'll be there. I'd be there for any one
of these 3 great bands. I saw Daikaiju when they were here
with the Anacondas a few years ago. They tore my head off!
PDM and the Rats are always awesome.

I'll definitely be there. I'll be sure to ask around for everybody. Who wants to be my date to get me in the door?
Just a few more hours oh boy oh boy...

Oh yeah I will be there-- doors at 2, music at 3.
Pollo has been rehearsing our first CD. I had completely forgotten some of the songs, but then I just think -- WWID? (What would I do?)
See you there, and bring some friends!

So the show was a whole lot of fun. All three bands did a good job and it was cool to put a face the new people I met.
The Lava Rats put up a kickass set to start it all off. It started a bit rough because I guess Bill's Mosrite was giving him tuning troubles, but the momentum picked up after switching guitars. What I don't get is how all of Bill's guitars sound so damn big. The Mosrite, Danelectro, and Sweptwing all had some serious balls. There were gutsy tones all over the place. Favorites were "Don't Drink the Water," "Sundown at the Gallows" and "PCH" which were cool to hear live for the first time, and I got myself an artisan Lava Rats t-shirt out of it all, crafted by our very own Bill Bergstrom, so that was an added bonus.
Daikaiju was up second and man, they were absolutely phenomenal. I was getting excited just watching them set up with their trippy red lights and sea of effects pedals. When they finally put it all to use it was just the most amazing show. My eyes actually popped out of my head and landed in my jaw which had already dropped to the floor. (Well ...) Before they started I would have been happy if all they were gonna play was "Laser Runner," which they did, and it was fantastic, but was even outshown by all the new stuff I hadn't heard before. I also particularly dug the slowed out version of "Mothra Girls." With the long psychedelic introduction leading up to it I didn't even know that that song was what was in store. I think it was "Zombie Harem" that had an uber-cool marching flamenco-esque break in the middle, and there was another song that, am I wrong?, I think broke into 9/8 time. Maybe I was just tripping balls, because I was in fact tripping balls. It's a crazy show these guys put on.
And it was just as cool visually as it was sonically. The lights and projections and the whole spastic movements of the guys on stage (secret-man has got it down pat) were all a huge part of the whole experience. I kept finding myself drawn to their spooky-ass masks, and then when one of them looks you in the eye you find yourself thinking "sorry..." and you have to look away because they're so intimidating. That was great. Okay I've gushed enough about these guys but I really think it was that good. I can't stress enough how imperative it is that everyone go out and see them next chance you get. If I knew they were gonna be this good I would have followed them through California.
And so the difficult task of following that educational experience was taken up of course by Pollo Del Mar, playing through their first album in its entirety. That was a lot of fun to hear, as it was also kinda twistedly fun to watch Ferenc struggle to remember parts of the melodies. "Snow Crash" seemed to have gotten the best of him, but the whole band bounced back with a second go that ended up being really good. Other highlights were that I finally got to hear "Pearl Diver" live, which was a beast, and Jono had me swooning through "Erik Estrada." After they finished the album Jeremy joined them for "Anabelle Lee," "Red Asphault" and "Cutlass Supreme" which are always crowd pleasers and proved to be a pretty good cap to a thoroughly fun show on the part of all three bands. And I didn't even get carded at the door.

What an amazing show... my ears are still ringing and I'm still catching my breath. I will collect my thoughts and put together something more cohesive later this week.

Great show! My wife and I had a good time and it was worth the drive. It was our first time at the Hotel Utah...I'm ready for the next one.
Highlights for me:
-Talking to a few SG101ers that I'd already met, and meeting a couple new ones. Good people.
-Hearing the Lava Rats live. That guitar sound is even bigger live than on the new recording. Awesome.
-Daikaiju...don't know what to say about these guys. It's an amazing show and everyone should see them. Thanks for the vids, Miles, it's pretty tough to describe this show.
-PDM playing their old stuff...sounded great and they make it look so easy. Those melodies were a nice place to land after the Daikaiju Attack!
-Swag: PDM shirt, Lava Rats stickers, and a compliation CD (thanks, Bill!)
I'll check the camera tonight for any decent shots...

I really wish I could have played this show. I've loved everything I've heard from Daikaiju and Pollo is one of the reasons I got so excited about playing surf in the first place. A huge word of thanks on my end to Agent Bob for filling the drum chair for me.
