It's always great to get a glimpse into the roots of surf culture and, well, can one not mention Gidget? The film, starring Sandra Dee and the TV series starring Sally Field, were inspired by a book and a real girl. Enter: Kathy Zuckerman. Otto and Baby Doe (Tiki Oasis) along with Rebecca and I had a chance to visit with her recently at Duke's in Malibu. More about Kathy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathy_Kohner-Zuckerman. Note: Dave, thanks for setting me straight on the actress references.

I chased down Gidget (the movie) a while back and much to my surprise quite enjoyed it. It was a fun, spunky coming-of-age flick with some decent dialog. I keep meaning to see if the book is in my local library. Cool photo!

I have the book, written by Kathy's father who used her diary (with her permission). I was surprised when the luau/orgy ended in a Malibu brush fire ignited by drunken party revelers with tiki torches. That wasn't in the movie. Malibu fires are nothing new.
