Fender Prosonic?

I have a Prosonic 2x10 combo and I really like it. 30-60w switchable power with 3 rectifier settings, lots of power. Not a traditional clean fender tone but still very good. Zinky designed. The tank is big but the built in reverb does not cut it at all when it comes to surf. I'm using my Pod x3's lux spring reverb with much better result (blasphemy here) but I'm saving up for a reverb tank. A Gomez tank would be nice, if they come with 230 volt. I started a thread at fenderforum and provided 2 soundclips of me playing the Prosonic with its reverb on 10. |

Looks interesting. Tried to listen to the sound clips linked to on FDP but was unable to with either Mac or Windows with several browsers (???). Do you have them available elsewhere? Other questions: -- Woody —It takes a lot of mussel memory to avoid clams. |

I think one of the important qualities of reverb is how much it 'sticks' to the sound - or to put it another way how much of the character of the original note is present in the reverb tail. On your recording, the reverb isn't bad as such but is a bit like a constant sound in the background that's not part of the guitar sound. The reason that the tank is so successful for the Surf sound is that it has a penetrating sound that cuts through the mix and hangs on to the guitar sound. This has quite a lot to do with the fact that it goes before the preamp and thus receives the same tonal boosts and colourations as the original signal. It's not a particularly long reverb that the tank gives either - which is good because Surf music is often quite busy. I used to have an AC30CC which had this really long reverb (it was a spring) which seemed to have almost nothing to do with the original sound - it was almost completely useless in practice. I can better understand the seeming lock-step adherence to the use of tanks vs. built-ins found in these fora.
