So I've been using my Line 6 Echo Park as my slap echo and I love it. I can tweak the sound and add the mod textures of tape, analog or digital echos. So I have no problem with what I'm using now...
I just feel like I could be using the Echo Park for so much more! So I'm thinking of picking up a dedicated slap echo unit.
I think I prefer the crispness of digital to the warmth of analog, and I'd prefer to be able to tweak the time and repeats.
I'm also not trying to spend a ton, and i figure I don't need a Strymon or anything just to get a decent slap echo...
Any recommendations are appreciated!

I use the boss RE-202 space echo pedal. Perfect surf delay imo

I kind of feel like that's overkill for what I need, but could I get a similar sound out of the smaller Boss RE-2 pedal?
Has anyone tried the Fender Hammertone Space Delay? Will anything tape delay-ish work?

If you already have a pedal that does it that you love… why not get a pedal that does something different? Or another of the same pedal if it does other stuff too?

The Catalinbread Echorec can do slapback plus a lot of other cool stuff. I have one and I dig it.

Cool, good suggestion! I've seen a few Catalinbread pedals that look interesting but I haven't had a good excuse yet to buy one!

Analog echoes like the Boss DM-2/DM-2w, Carbon Copy, etc, etc, have a higher fidelity the shorter the echo. Whether you go for a digital pedal or an analog one, there are many options for a dedicated slap echo unit. I believe Scotty Moore in his later years used a Boss Digital Delay.
BTW, for reference, I own the following: JHS Milkman Slapback Echo/Boost, Boss RE-202, MXR Carbon Copy, Boss DM-2w, Dawner Prince Boonar (Echorec) among others.
If I was to select one for a dedicated slap for my own needs, I would easily use the DM-2w for sound and simplicity. Any of the above units here in my post would work great, though.

I really like the JHS Milkman, as it also has a boost. I wish it could go just a little longer on the delay, but does what I need it to do.
