Permalink 1962 Fender Showman For Sale on Reverb

New Topic

I am in the market for a brownface Showman, but I am also a bit skeptical. There are only two photos of this amp (I don't count the picture of the cover), and not one shot of the guts. IMO, he is asking a lot of money considering his lack of photos and detail.

I would love to get your opinion on this amp. Am I being overly cautious, or am I right about needing several shots of the guts, and some sound clips for that price?

It looks in really nice condition. You should send a message to the seller and ask for more photos. It's a high priced item so they should be willing to do that to help make the sale.

I might do that, thanks for the advice. It just makes me a little hesitant that they only have a few reviews, and they didn't think to post photos of the guts without a potential buyer having to ask. If I were selling a vintage tube amp online, I would have several pictures posted inside and out. Maybe I am being difficult, but that is just who I am when it comes to stuff like this.

Needs a lot more info and photos. All transformers had better be original for that price! Kinda weird that they mention the tube chart being partially there but there's no photo. They are either ignorant, lazy, or dishonest. Everyone knows you gotta have gut shots!

$3500 for just the head? Even if it was immaculate, that is steep. Unless it has some history?

And $300 to ship??? You can ship loaded cabs for less than that.

If you’re super interested, reach out to them and ask for gut shots. But I think it’s at least $1k to $2k too expensive even if all original and in good shape, personally.

For comparison I bought a 60 head for $1800 (and I feel I spent too much on it since it had a repro cab). And I spent $2500 on 62 head and cab (all original and in great shape). It was in 2020 so I know prices have raised, but shouldn’t have raised THAT much.

It does seem excessive, as many have said.

Thank you guys for confirming my uneasy feeling about this listing. I can have Jim at Lil' Dawg amps make me another gorgeous sounding Showman head for less than that. My gut is telling me not to purchase this amp. I am in no hurry, I can wait as long as it takes to find the right one.

And a fake one!

The head that the OP referenced is, at bare minimum, a recovered cabinet, and I suspect it’s a repro cabinet altogether. The angled front isn’t radiused on the top edge like vintage examples.

Wonder where he found the brown faceplate? I hope that's not a real one...

It’s definitely a reproduction face plate: no presence knob or hole and it has the bright switches.

Is it wrong that I kind of love the 1968 Showman? Seems like if you could talk them down it isnt that bad of a deal.

Love is blind! If you are close enough to go check it out in person you’d probably get a way better price than paying through reverb.

looks like the speakers have been reconed.

I may go see it. Been awhile since I been in GLV. May offer 1900. Think that's fair? Or too much?

I’m not sure! If it sounds good?? seems like they’d pay at least a couple hundred in fees plus the hassle of shipping so I think they’d take your offer.
