The Exotic Guitar of Kahuna Kawentzmann

You can get the boy out of the Keynes era, but you can’t get the Keynes era out of the boy.

A Bass VI? Sounds like one, to my ear.

I have no idea. Doesn't sound like a Dano for sure. I like to think it's a Meazzi, honestly ;)

Whatever it is, it’s a great sound.

Hearing it again, it's very, very close to Jet Harris' Bass VI, so probably a Fender.

Now that you mention it, it sounds a lot like Harris’ Diamonds.

The conventional wisdom is that Harris' Diamonds is a guitar tuned down to DGCFAD. I was disappointed when I learned this as I'd assumed it was a Bass VI

I’ve seen a video of him playing it on Bass VI.

Bass VI live, detuned guitar in the studio maybe?

That could very well be the case.

I had a quick look on Google, somehow using my non-existent knowledge of Italian language, and it seems Marc 4's bassist passed away in November last year. There is a picture of him in the studio playing a bass I can't pretend to be able to identify, but apparently enjoying his work.

I first heard Marc 4 on a couple of tracks on this compilation record, which I got when it came out in 1998 and which has been a favourite of mine ever since:

I'd think it's a Gibson Les Paul bass?
Cheers, Andy

On the recordings AFTER Diamonds (he did some) Harris used a Bass VI.

The I Marc 4 track lead sound reminds me of Besame Mucho.

That’s the sound. I don’t play my VI often, but when I do, it’s always gratifying.
