When I think "Colorado" and "Surf", something like an inspiration of the Tulagi Club (the font of the signage or even the mural inside) would be a bit of cool nod to the Astronauts without it being an overt Astronauts dedication. Back to my snow-shoveling...

That would be cool. Maybe in another iteration.

Enjoy the snow shoveling. I've had a break from it for the last couple of days which has been nice.

Matthew, you're welcome. One other thing: at least some of the lettering in each of the logos is somewhat hard to read. I would clean that up on whichever one ends up being the winner..

Matthew, like paul, I like design # 8 the best, and I agree with Jeff, that having Colorado in the name, is confusing, and misleading. i think people in-the-know may understand that it is not limited to Colorado, but the casual fan will think that content is limited to the Colorado scene.

Thanks, Bob. I like 8 as well. Quite a few of them actually which is why I asked the group for help. However, nothing stands out as the clear winner.

Let me get a couple of issues under my belt. If it seems like the "Colorado" part is negatively affecting publicity (and I feel like changing it) I will try something different.

This former Broomfield Boy gives it his stamp of approval. This logo is recognizable to any Coloradan. I always thought that flag must have been a very modern design, but it dates back to 1911, although the C was a lot smaller, back then. The current revision is from 1964. It’s a great logo, and, IMHO, fitting for your subject.

I lived in the Denver area for decades: Westminster, Broomfield, Englewood, Saudi Aurora, and finally back to Westminster. The place, I miss dearly, but it’s a bit more crowded these days, so I’ll probably just stay out in the Arizona boondocks.

Thanks for the nod of approval. I may use it some place in the zine.

I'm a bit south of where you were in a little city named, Parker.

I used to live in Scottsdale. Only made it to Tucson a time or two when I was in college to catch a show.

I know Parker quite well, I used to work for IREA. Is the Hillside Market still in business?

All this talk of snow shoveling is making me jealous. We did get 2”, a week or so back, and it accumulated very quickly, lasting about 2 days, but now it’s long forgotten. 71 degrees F, today.

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

While I agree that Bob and Paul have sound reasoning regarding #8, I must admit that #1 gets my vote. The sun and that wave and the font for "Colorado" just speak to me.

Bango votes #3. If you have seen any of the RipTide Riot promo, 80's neon is the way to go. lol

This ape thinks The GO-GO Rillas are going to be in CO later this year, so keep an eye out.

Bango Rilla!

This is exciting! It's wonderful to see new printed media. I like #8 also, with #1 being a runner up. I agree that putting Colorado in the title implies a very local perspective. Those titles you mention are widely known, exceptions to the rule, and they are also news outlets not music zines.

  1. Simpler. Got a wave. Triangles that look like mountains.

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

"8." Like Mountains & Waves. Although a font closer to #6 on #8 might be cool.

BTW if you enter just "8." (without quotes), the system will instantly turn it to 1. I think that's what Elmonstroporfavor was selecting. Originally I entered selection "8." (without quotes) and it made it 1. So if you want "8", you have to put quotes around it.

Thanks again. A few people have mentioned the readability. I'll see what we can do in the next iteration of logos.

Thank you. The sun and the waves are my favorite aspects. We get plenty of sun here in Colorado.

Appreciate the input. The waves are a must.

Thanks for the heads up about the "8." I noticed that when I quoted his post, it appeared as an "8" in the dialog box but then printed as a "1". Odd.

Thanks for the encouragement, Daniel. Issue #1 will be available next month.

I like both of those logo designs as well. Wink

Yes, those are well-known publications. How about Maximum Rock N Roll? It was a fanzine that covered punk, not rock, and used their name somewhat sarcastically.

Will this be an online mag, or print?

Starting with print. We may move to something online (for content) in the future but that remains to be seen.

There will be an online portal for ordering though.

I prefer #4 - the wave and the sun say it all.

Like others, I think putting Colorado in the title would be mistake- I had to think twice before even looking at this thread, thinking (as a UK resident) it wasn't for me.

If you really want to keep the C.I. initials can you think of another word starting with C related to the genre? I sure folks on here would have some good suggestions if you're struggling.

Thanks for the vote, J. I like the sun and the waves too.

The moniker is certainly getting a good deal of attention. Wink

I enjoyed The Spriatones!
