I've been using it on the advice of a friend who recommended it. I haven't used other services, so take this with a grain of salt, but I've been pretty happy with it. The uploading process is pretty painless and straightforward. You can pick the specific services you want your tracks uploaded to, and Distrokid gives you lots of control over specific options at upload time. They also follow through and let you know when your tracks have gone live on each of the larger streaming services. And it's pretty affordable, too. — |

The Tentakills use Distrokid. We have had a good experience so far. Couple bugs at first but everything worked out. You do get hit up with add ons & package upgrade campaigns but I assume it’s like that everywhere. Not a ton revenue generated from the material we have out through Distrokid vs Bandcamp, but enough to make it worth it & certainly nice to have the exposure. |

I use CD Baby as they have a one time fee per album/single. Distrokid has a yearly membership fee for unlimited uploads, but will take them off streaming services if you cancel your membership. The Leave a Legacy option on Distrokid seems very misleading. It infers they will keep your music up if your account lapses (not cancelled as is reported around the net). This would mean something along the lines that your credit card was rejected (then you would have to correct this). This is really not that clear so my interpretation may be wrong on this point. They generally won't remove your music from the streaming choices you chose for them to upload to if you change your mind. They have been fine for USK and other releases so far. We uploaded our first EP via DistroKid, but I think we may be switching to CDBaby for the next one. I think that DistroKid is better if you're uploading a lot of music, CDBaby is better if you're uploading less. DistroKid won't allow you to upload things ahead of their release date unless you pay for a more expensive membership, which means you can't pitch things to Spotify editorial (if you were planning on doing so). DistroKid also refused to upload the song we wrote for a 30-second-song compilation, so we had to go with CDBaby for that. We're heavily considering paying DistroKid the $49 to keep our current EP online, and then stopping payment on our account. —Party Nerves - Loud, Fast, and Kind of a Bummer |

I use Distrokid, it's fine. I think what someone mentioned earlier is correct, Distro is a yearly fee and you can upload as much as you want, singles, albums, whatever. I believe CDbaby charges per upload. So if you're doing a lot, Distro is probably better. I've always been able to upload stuff ahead of time and pitch to Spotify, for all the good it's done. maybe there are different membership tiers or something? —Matt Heaton & the Electric Heaters |
