Hi All,

Havn't touched the guitar for a while now. Since my sister's visit (2 months
in L.A.), after that, I went to visit my (ailing) mom in Algiers 15 days and
now I am back in Santa Clarita and trying to get some rest.
I recorded "DAWN" last night.
It's a catchy tune by Vinnie Bell in 1964.
I added 2 harmony lines that I recorded on the backing track and I play the melody on top of his guitar which has been considerably reduced.

I hope you like it eventhough it's not exactly Surf music.

Best Regards,
Abdel

Just had to tell ya that my wifes name is Dawn, and after us both watching it, I knew you'd love to hear how she was dancing to it. What a gem Wink

'Always' enjoy visiting your site. Wish I had half the talent you do!
We ended up watching a bunch of videos. Good times. Great music.
Good weekend Cool

DAWN!!!!!!!!! I absolutely can NOT believe this!!!!! Dawn was probably the second song our first ever "real band" (The Nightriders - sorry Jon) learned to play!!!! All these years I haven't heard of it. A classmate of mine, Mark Hall showed the song to me at our first real band practice in my dad's basement (when the band consisted of two guitars (one home-made amp) and a trumpet player). I never had any idea where or who it came from!!!! Amazing....really amazing.

For some odd reason, I had tried to place it with the Dave Clark Five but never could and I have never even heard the original record!

I have pitched it to both the X-Rays and The Surge! to learn for a "break song" but have never be able to grab their attention.....

What an amazing revelation.......hot damn!

And what great timing too as this Saturday night, The Surge! will perform for the grand re-opening of the completely renovated Clarkson High School Auditorium. This was the site of the Nightriders first ever "paying" band gig, in you guessed it, 1964!

Thanks Abdel......and by the way, your cover of it is boss and sounds WAY better than we ever hoped to pull it off in '64.

Still Stunned,

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Glad you liked it.

It is a great tune to play, and I just discovered it about a year or so ago.
I then made an audio recording, and Saturday, I decided to make
a live video.

Eddie impressive musical history you have. It must have been
a thrill to play that tune at the time. I would love to hear
a vintage recording of your band if you have one.

Thank you all,
Abel

Somewhere, I probably have some reel to reel tapes that we made, but at present I have no machine to play them back on. I am not even sure that the old tapes would still be able to play. I keep checking out ebay for a two track Ampex machine real cheap and when I find one, I'll certainly give those old tapes a shot.

It's funny, Saturday night our current surf/instro band, The Surge! performed for the re-opening of the completely restored old Clarkston High School Auditorium, which is now a part of the Clarkston Community Center. Prior to our first number, Apache, I walked up to the mic and told the crowd how 43 years ago, four guys from neighboring Briarcliff High School and one graduating senior from there at Clarkston had played their second ever performance in the Gymnasium which once stood right next to the building we were playing in. It was a pretty emotional experience for me to return to, basically where in 1964, it all began. I struggled for several numbers to maintain my composure but Mitch, Sticks and Rich kept it all together until I came back down to earth, glanced skyward for a moment to thank all those who have gone before, and who's inspiration have been such a large part of my life, threw caution to the wind and cranked............

I sat down yesterday and pulled up Dawn from my sawdust contaminated brain and it came right back. I'll start pressuring these guys to humor me and put it on the song list........

You know, I can't help it........I love this stuff.
