So, how do you record at home and what do you use? Let's gather them videos here and share ideas! Here is my very budget and simple studio that is used for all the records you may find under my profile.

I've posted it in the past but here it is now. It is located in what was the dining room in the house I bought a year ago when I moved back to Georgia....

That’s awesome! Did you know that the Mermen albums A Glorious Lethal Euphoria and Song Of The Cows were recorded on ADATS? Blew my mind. I won’t go into it but I foolishly disposed of an ADAT some years back and shouldn’t have. You can barely make it out over in the upper left but I have an old Fostex R8. And hiding on a shelf is my 27 years old Yamaha MT4X, it’s still running (with repairs). Mostly the computer has taken over.

I can go either way, and mic an amp, if I want to.

Recording is a secondary activity for me, at best, so I don’t know if I’ll ever go back to using my MacBook as a DAW, but if I do, I’ll probably use a Redbox re-amper, so I can record a pristine track, plugged directly in, and then send that track out the re-amper and record it through an amp, post prod. FWIW, the R8 sounds pretty good, direct.

Thanks Vitaly. At the time the 32XD came out, Protools was just being perfected. I debated but I wish I had chosen computer based. At this point, getting time to have the red light on is difficult let alone learning a whole new platform.

Mine is always in a bit of a mess, but then so am I.

Basically it's built around an old Mackie 32-8 board. For a number of years, the Mackie fed a pair of ADAT xt-20's. I got tired of them eating tapes and years back I upgraded to an Alesis HD-24 hard disk recorder. Big improvement.

Merry Christmas all!

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?
