We've been recording a lot more material the last couple of years but I'm finding what I put on tape/digital is substantially weaker than what I gave the mixer/mastering. I understand that some is absorbed in overall mix, but it just sounds weaker.
Any suggestions what causes this, or what I can change in what I give the mixer?
Thanks in advance.

Nah, we have to do everything remote right now.
I believe part of the problem is:
1) Bass processed in stereo prior to sending to mixer.
2) Rhythm guitar DAW added effects prior to sending to mixer.

I do everything myself and some people say the guitar or bass sometimes are too loud in a mix but I like it this way, this is guitar music. So just talk with mixing person of your expectations and give some references. I also don’t put any digital effects on guitar before mixing, and mostly don’t put them at all, for me it should be really strong and bold as I record, then it surely will not be lost in a mix. Hope it will help.
