Seriously, Im a huge Setzer fan, but I went (rather uninformedly) to the " '68 comeback special tour" when they were in town, and I was hugely dissapointed, cause he didnt play Elvis songs. go figure.

Always been a fan of Brian's music from the early days till now but never cared that much for this version of SW off the DB release. Like it till about 2/3 rds in and to me, it gets too far away from the melody. Besides Santo and Johnny, I really like The Shadows version..who also do a great Apache...

you don't think setzer is a good singer? i think his prime was when he was on his 20's. "i won't stand in your way", "lonely summer nights", and hell, even his version of "sixteen candles" are good examples of his great voice.

i even think "since i don't have you" is great as well, and he was in his late 30's when that came out.

wow, i know he's not the absolute greatest singer in the world, but i still love his voice. he didn't even want to be a singer in the first place, so let's at least give him props for that.

exactly. im definetely not getting his new album, but i understand that he has a right to go forth and do such a crazy(in my opinion) idea.

jazzed up versions of classical songs? not my cup o' tea at all.

i wasn't trying to start an arguement, but i've just never heard anyone say anything bad about his voice. not by any means is he the best in the world, but he can hold his own i think.

hey Kyle, lighten up man, no one's ripping on him, everyone sais he's great.... my reference to Elvis was more or less a joke, but this part is true, I think the '68 CBS is the best thing Elvis has ever done, and when Setzer did the 3some again after the BSO got big, and it was advertized as 68CBS, I went there expecting an Elvis/Scotty More tribute, and I was let down by what I got. - which is funny cause when I look at the Setzer vids on youtube now with Winchester and Dresel, Im blown away completly. I guess it's all about what you expect, but Im curious as to why he chose to call it the '68CBS with the Elvis reference?

As for his voice, Elvis he aint. I actually think he is a good singer (technically) but he has a mediocre voice - a matter of taste maybe? - I think he's singing A LOT better now though then in his Stray Cat days.

Anyway, everyone in this thread says he's great, right? I think he deserves major props for everything he's done and esp. for reinventing himself. Being a kick ass player and then devoting yourself to getting much better, how cool is that. making the transition from being a three piece old school rockabilly guitarist to being a bigband leader and jazzcat, that's awesome. I think he does some of the arranging for the BSO too but Im not sure.

anyway, all hail Setzer for sure!

anyway, his singing is great here. Im not a singing expert by any means, but it sounds to me he's simply singing less loud here then he usually does, almost in a Johnny Cash kinda way, and it makes his voice sound way better, as if when he sings louder it creates out of tune overtiones and now it doesn't? that's what it sounds like to me, anyway, dig these clips!!!!
