Joe here. What Mike said. Total blast! Surf music is alive and well in España. BTW, Mike's new last name is Carajillo (the drink he's finishing up in this pic).
Hard to do the description of the festival justice, but let me just say it's really amazing and infinitely cool to see the enormous influence American music has had in Europe, especially at something on this scale. Even if you're not a big rockabilly fan, it's just unreal. People drove hot rods and 50s cars from as far away as England (you think a 50s car looks big here, you should see a few of them in the midst of all the tiny European cars people drive now). Also very cool was the dancing. Here people at rockabilly shows are always two-stepping. There they mix it in with "bopping". Wood floor in the venue that gives just a little and everyone dancing their asses off (like a funny Groucho Marx dance) and stomping on the 2 and 4 of every beat. It was loud as hell and the whole place was throbbing to the beat and everyone watching the dancers in a big circle. Rock n roll! Joe |
