I need some help, folks
Last year I’ve put 11-50 flatwounds on my Thin Skin 62 reissue Jazzmaster and soon got some significant neck bow so I needed to rase the strings a little that is not really comfortable.
Recently I decided to make it straighter making 1/4 turnes once in a week or so. It helped, but the neck is still a little concave for my taste (also I feel that this bow makes some string rattle and buzz after 12th fret) but truss rod tightens no more (and I am a strong guy so afraid to break something)
What should I do? Is it really the limit for this neck?
Shall I go to the lighter gauge? I have a set of 11-48 roundwounds, I guess their tension would be lower and this may help?
It’s problematic for me now to go to the luthier and I surely don’t want to change this matching headstock neck for another one even for the sake of heavier strings.

On my AVRI62 some washers were needed to solve the out-of-adjustment issue.
Google "fender brass truss rod washers".
My strings are 15-65 (but tuned to D standard).
Good luck,

That's certainly unusual. Thin Skin has the heel truss, right? It might be that the nut channel wasn't drilled deep enough?
10-48 flats's are what I have on everything, and I certainly like them on both my Jazzmaster's (though with Strat tremolo) - just be aware that at 10-48 the wound third 20 can be problematic, so I tend to get a plain 17 as a backup in case it goes sitar on me.
Yep, heel truss. And it had 10’ strings when I bought it and set up was pretty ok

Thanks, I will check these. Is it possibly to do this by myself or you need a luthier?

You can probably do it yourself.
Take off the truss rod nut, inspect the threads on the truss rod to see that they look good. Maybe lubricate. Add washer or washers, reinstall nut.
You can probably read some threads about it in various gear forums.
Good luck

Samurai, I have the same JM model as you, and have been forever using Pyramid flats 13-56 (E) with no issue at all, action is not the lowest but low enough to be comfortable. Truss rod adjusted was sufficient. Neck is slightly shimmed though.
So, something is wrong...

I don’t know( May it be the really high humidity where we live now? Although I think high humidity makes it flat and dryness makes it bowed?

Ran, that's genius! It's great that Fender make a part for that! As usual, I had the concept right but the direction backwards. This is why I failed physics.
Vitaly, I've linked a video from Stewmac about truss rod repair - looks from here that you can just unscrew the nut from the end of the rod and slip the washers over.
Thanks, that was useful!

I don't know either!
Tel-Aviv is a very high humidity environment, and all my instruments are fine. Maybe it was the rapid relocation from cold Kiev, wood needs a lot of time to settle. You did transfer it without a case, right?.
Logically (not from experience), warmer and more humid wood is more pliable to distortion, either confirming itself to the pull of the truss rod, or the pull of the strings. It might not be any of that at all though in your case.

I have decided to follow the advice on Offsetguitars
There are a lot these cases with avri Jazzmasters
I will take the neck off and check how the truss works ok (it seems to work, when I loosen it, it bows more) and if i’s ok and it’s just the limit, I will switch to 10’s gauge, that’s not a Jaguar and may live nice with 10’s on Jazzmaster)
If I am not happy with it I will take it to the luthier in the future.

Yes, logically it could become straighter due to high humidity here, not to bow more. Climate in Western Germany is pretty similar to Kyiv, just the humidity is much higher.
I brought it in a gigbag, but that was 1,5 year ago so it surely had time to settle, just seems these 11-50 flatwounds are just a little to hard for this specific guitar.

Climate in West Germany was good for the Guitar Summit but I have not seen you there were you not suppose to come?
You over think the guitar setup man, just play the thing, leave the action high and let those strings ring well! And Jazzmaster is make for 12 and 13… so their are not too hard.

Be careful. The threads on a brass nut aren't as strong as you might think. If it won't turn by applying normL force - stop. Adding washers could help but is a temporary solution. The wood fibers will depress further in time.
In addition to greasing the truss rod nut...
This method is effective, even without applying heat. I used it on two guitars. Just go slowly. Your text to link here...
Remember to loosen the strings and truss rod nut first. When the neck is close to where you want it, tighten the truss rod nut enough to hold the neck where it is. Remove all clamps. Then adjust as you would normally.

Thanks everyone. I’ve backed a truss rod a little, changed strings for roundwound 11-48 and now it’s great and smooth. It seems I am not really a fan of flatfounds, however I still keep them on Jaguar.

Samurai, what brand of flatwounds were you using? I know that different brands of the same gauge have very different tension due to varying core-to-wrap diameter ratios and round cores vs. hex cores. For example, .011 T-I "Swing" sets (thinner round core) are lower tension than D'Addario "Chromes" (heavier hex core).x

I was using Daddario XL and according to specs they really have pretty high tension. With the same gauge Ernie Ball roundwounds the problem disappeared.
