Permalink Where to place tremolo pedal

I’m an intermediate player with a little over 3 years of serious playing… but I’m still learning the subtleties of pedals and dialing in amps…

with that said, what is the traditional way of plugging in a tremolo pedal?

A or B?

Traditionally, it was part of the amp. And the reverb tank fed into the amp. So, after the reverb. But, it sounds cool before the reverb too, so see which you prefer! Do you want a flickery sound reverberating in a large space, or a reverby sound flickering? You can even stack reverbs (before AND after the tremolo) but then we are getting into shoegaze, not surf.

Is this for bass or guitar? I see you're using a bass amp.

im actually playing my Comanche guitar through a bass amp…it sounds really nice and clean…

I heard that first wave guys used to play guitars through bass amps so I figured why couldn’t I?

Also, the Rumble makes a sick guitar amp.

rfcii makes a good argument based on history, here's one based on technology - most tremolo pedals (especially cheaper ones) prefer to be pre-buffered. So putting it after the Surfy Bear should prevent any clicks, unless you have another buffered pedal like a tuner you can put in front of the tremolo.

Thanks. I didn't know that.

Thanks! I feel so as well…it feels like the effect is mixed in more and not in your face

I put my pedal before the tank, and if I want the after tank effect, I turn up the trem on my amp.
