Streaming - Spotify
Buying - Live Shows (preferably) or Bandcamp
Aside from paying the artists directly at a show, Bandcamp offers the best payout to artists, plus they deliver uncompressed audio files.

I only listen to stream services as I have no other media players: Apple Music, sometimes Spotify
Bandcamp to buy stuff and support bands

I consider Spotify evil, and won't support them in any way. I know they're convenient, but they pay the artists almost nothing. If I was a streamer, I would go with Tidal. They offer Hi-Res, and pay the artists better than most of the streaming services. I buy almost everything to which I listen on CD's, or via downloads from BandCamp, preferably on "BandCamp Fridays", when the artists get 100% of the proceeds.

Bandcamp, Soundcloud, GTF Instrumental, numerous podcasts, WISL on saturday mornings, Best Smooth Jazz. All are internet.

Mainly bandcamp, and I buy frequently

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

I buy and listen from bandcamp. Artists are much better supported on this platform. Most of streaming services, though convenient, are killing all but the big artists with their payment model. Spotify pays between $0.003 and $0.0084 per stream. Not enough to maintain a healthy music industry.

Bandcamp (frequently) and Amazon (less so). I don't use any streaming music services because of how poorly they treat and pay independent artists.

Project: MAYHEM by Hypersonic Secret now available!

Spotify and YouTube, but lately I’ve been buying CD’s because stuff gets taken down too frequently

I buy from the sites that have the music I want to hear.
SoundCloud, bandcamp, Apple,, etc.
I don’t listen more than once to any music I haven’t paid for.
If I listen to music that is in links here, from members of this site. I listen once. If I like it I buy it. If it doesn’t catch me, I don’t listen again.
It’s not fare to the people that produce the music, to listen over and over for free.

Joel

I subscribe to Apple Music. Occasionally, I'll listen on YouTube.

I listen on YouTube Music or Youtube to get algorithm inspiration as well as Bandcamp to listen to albums in full (I also buy plenty of vinyl, so don't worry - I am contributing). My small complaint with Bandcamp is that sometimes I own a record on vinyl but did not buy it through them, and the app tells me that it is time to "open my wallet" - which is rather cheeky.
Recently I have started listening to some of the surf music podcasts, which are very good. My only complaint is that they tend to play 4 records in a row, then I lose track of what is what. I know there are often listings but that is a hassle to track down. Are there any podcasts where the Dj just plays one tune and says what it is before and after? - for those of us whose attention may not be fully on every record.

Youtube and buying from Bandcamp. I buy CDs when I can and settle for digital when I can't.

I'm pretty new to the podcasts/internet radio route of finding new surf music to listen to. So far I have enjoyed:
Storm surge of reverb
Fiberglass Jungle
John Blair's podcast (only heard it once, but it was great)
Sorry to be useless about providing links. I'm sure there are other contributors who know MUCH more about this than me..

Thanks for the recommendations! I've been trying to catch Fiberglass Jungle and Storm Surge of Reverb for a bit now, but I'm used to podcasts downloading to my phone so I can listen at any time. With both of those, it seems that they broadcast at very specific times on specific days so you have to tune in live. I can respect that sort of ephemeral quality, but my schedule is anything but regular and I can never seem to catch the shows. Then again, I might be looking in the wrong places for them, but as someone who isn't necessarily a technological slouch, if they are available for on-demand listening, they certainly don't make it easy to find. Maybe that's part of what makes them good...if you want it, you gotta work for it! I'll keep an eye out for John Blair's podcast.

btw, I don't know who Lady Reverb is, but if she doesn't work professionally in radio, she probably should.

That's no lady, that's my wife! Seriously, it is. She used to college DJ back in the 80s. Glad you've enjoyed those podcasts. With the advent of streaming music and radio it seemed unnecessary to continue the series. JonPaul is the best source for all your surf music curation.

She has a voice built for radio! I totally understand why the advent of streaming would affect the podcast, but there's so much surf music out there listening to someone's selection is a great way to get a sampling of stuff that might otherwise be missed. I'll check out John's podcast, but my feeling is the more the merrier. If you/she ever saw fit to bring it back, I'd definitely subscribe.
