Can you all answer me this:
Does your lead circuit tone knob function normally? I just realized that mine acts as a bass cut knob! Is this factory or did my previous owner modify it??
Update:
Upon further investigation, I've found numerous oddities which suggest it's very non-stock under the hood.
-- The lead channel tone knob functions as a bass cut and only the last little bit of adjustment has any effect, suggesting the wrong pot taper. In fact, this goes for the volume knob AND both knobs of the rhythm circuit. All the pots on the guitar are almost on/off switches.
-- The rhythm circuit tone knob acts as a bass cut just like the main channel!
-- The strangle switch has a prodigious effect on the tone. My prior impression of them was that they cut out "a little bit" of the bass but mine is like going from a Strat bridge to a Les Paul neck!
I guess what this means is that I have to take this thing apart and see what the hell is going on in there. Or maybe I don't. It sounds pretty damn good as-is. Or maybe I do, since I want to replace the bridge with something that actually stays in place.

I have Mastery bridges on my Jaguar and Telecaster. I'm glad you pointed out their flaws Tqi or I would never have known.

It could just as easily have been stated "The Mastery is for people who prefer a locked bridge." I'm not sure why it was put so pejoratively.

Ribbing of the Mastery is fair game. At least in my threads! Its design is totally counter to the theory of the original. Dragging your strings across a piece of metal is pretty much the worst idea for a vibrato bridge there is! Obviously people are happy with them but people are happy with Crocs and trump too...
Yamaha had this figured out half a century ago now.
As for the backwards bridge on my Jag--that's the unwitting handiwork of the Current Owner... But hey--the sinking bridge posts render the subtleties of perfect intonation utterly moot anyway.
Thanks for the speculations regarding the electronic confusion hidden below. I now have hope that I won't need to go buy proper replacement parts--just reconfigure the existing ones. Or re-reconfigure, I suppose.

OK now it's personal. I only have crocs because they are the only slippers my dog can't eat.
I had a Yamaha SGV 800 and it had the best bridge I've ever used but that doesn't help a Jaguar. I've had no issues with the Mastery, I've never had a string break or jump out of the saddle and the guitar stays in tune. The original design really needed something counter to the theory.
